Run by the amazing Ricardo in a beautiful spot in Barga, this place shines with fantastic seafood dishes and excellent wines. Lovely service and food cooked with skill and love, this is a special restaurant!

Fresh seafood in the mountains! Riccardo (formerly of Riccardo’s restaurant in Barga) has opened this fish restaurant and it’s amazing! I tried the tuna tartare (daily specials) and the Bosses’ mixed grill - no sauces required; just fish cooked to perfection. Service is great too.

We had the standard lunch menu and it was fabulous, fantastic value and some of the best pasta and seafood we have ever had. Great service, thanks

We had read some of the excellent reviews about Giro di Boa and so booked for last night. It was fantastic. Everything. Service, food and wine. We will be back for sure. A little bowl of fried anchovies appeared as a nibble and these were...just sublime! My wife chose the Bruschetta to start and I had the hot seafood which was so fresh and had all sorts of shellfish, including prawns, mussels, clams, octopus, squid and crayfish. This was followed by sea bass for my wife which was cooked in foil with olive oil, olives and carrots and potatoes. I tried a little and it was so delicate. I had squid and prawns with fried potatoes. This too was very delicate and beautifully cooked. We had an excellent bottle of Pinot Grigio to wash it down. Ricardo and all your staff - thank you for a lovely evening. You need to book!More

Took friends there yesterday evening, certain that we’d have a really good fish dinner as I have enjoyed Riccardo’s offerings in his previous incarnations, and I was actually astounded: the dinner exceeded my exàpectations. Needless to say my friends were delighted. We ordered one Spaghetti allo...Scoglio, and two Polpo e patate, to be followed by a mixed grlill platter and a mixed fried fish platter to be shared. A bottle of the house white - a lovely Vermentino di Bolgheri, and we were set. Well! While we were chatting, a small dish of delicious fried anchovies appeared on our table, just something to nibble and while the time away, then our first course arrived. The spaghetti allo scoglio were magnificent - so much so that after the first forkful our friend just ignored us until she’ hoovered the lot, cooing at the pasta as she inhaled it. However the octopus was also to die for - tender, perfectly cooked tentacles resting on a small mound of creamy mashed potatoes drizzled with olive oil and placed on a bed of tiny young lettuce leaves. We thought it couldn’t get any better but then the two platters arrived: the mixed grill was not your usual mix - there were scampis, langoustine, surprisingly tender cuttlefish and bream fillet. Perfectly dressed. And the fried platter was prawns and calamari plus fried zucchini, slivers of carrots and potatoes- all even lighter than tempura fried fish. Amazing! Oh yes, my friends finished off with a Semifreddo al torroncino which apparently was also delicious. What else can I say? Well, I’d say that Riccardo’s secret is excellent ingredients - extremely fresh fish, and no meddling with the produce: just enough seasoning and cooked with a light touch. Bravo Riccardo, thanks for a really memorable meal.More

Stumbled on this charming fish restaurant tucked away in Barga. Wasn’t expecting this so far inland but it was excellent and quite reasonably priced for the area. We took mixed mussels, clams & squid with pasta and octopus, potato and tomatoes- beautifully cooked. Overall a...nice light lunch.More

We tried to book a table two days in a row, but (I guess the owner) told us that he does not have even time to talk with us because he knows better how to run a restaurant. I guess that he doesnt.

Riccardo has organized the inddor space to accomodate up to 16 guests. the food, mainly based on fish and seafood, is very good; the fish is fresh, and at lunchtime on weekdays you get an incredible deal for 15 €: pasta alla scoglio, fritto misto,...water, wine, coffee. The fritto is light, cripsy, great. RECOMMENDED!More

We came here on a rainy evening in October. We had been told GIRO DI BOA might not open as the majority of the serving area was outside. We were in luck and the chef and server were open for business inside. There are 4-5...tables and very cozy. Most of the area was filled with locals from another restaurant closeby, so we knew we were in for some good food. Our waitress was helpful and with the use of google translate we were able to order risotto made with prawns and zucchini, sea bass with a grapefruit slice on the side and veal with porcini mushrooms. The chef is a local guy who apparently has tried to retire and then opens another restaurant. Well if you do something well and people appreciate you, why not. He runs it with his son Stefan, who was there on our second visit. Our second visit was a bit of a fluke, we knew we wanted a late lunch, we had been planned on skipping dinner as we had early morning travel plans the next day. We happened upon the restaurant at 2:30 p.m. And we're thrilled we could eat there once again. Alas Stefan said they were closing and we could come back at 7:30. My husband who does not speak Italian but communicates well anyway put his hands together and begged the chef (who happened to be outside with his son and recognized us from another evening ) for just a little food. He smiled and relented. We had the veal with mushrooms yet again. This time was just as good and he included a side of sautéed potatoes. We would highly recommend this restaurant, some of the best food we had in Italy over a three week period. We loved everything about Barga and northern Tuscany region! Oh that is if we didn't have to drive fast on tiny roads!More

Went for dinner with a friend and were happily surprised - even though we whouldn’t have been - the chef / owner is Riccardo, well known locally in previous incarnations and all good - he keeps trying to retire to please his family, then can’t...do it, so he opens another restaurant - and they’re all brilliant . Had wonderful fish and seafood, all with a twist: a little lemon zest here, a touch of grapefruit there - but his real secret is exceptionally fresh produce. Give it a try : well worth it.More

We found this restaurant whilst wandering around Barga in the evening. We are not fans of fish but the shortish but interesting menu caters for all tastes. The service was excellent, good English spoken which made it easier to ask about the dishes, and saved...me breaking into poor Italian! Very enjoyable evening. Busy restaurant mostly outside in a piazza. Plenty of locals eating which is a good sign imho.More

My wife and I stumbled across the restaurant one afternoon when in Barga- it was busy with locals and there was a great buzz. The service and quality of food meant that we booked up for a dinner on our final night in Tuscany! Good...menu, very friendly and helpful staff, and fresh good quality food- a definite place to visit if in the area.More

Giro di Boa fills a gap in the great variety of restaurants in the historic centre of Barga. Specialising in fresh fish and seafood dishes (but with a few other traditional dishes for carnivores) the restaurant has an interesting and varied menu. The chef is...the well known Riccardo Orsucci and his son Stefano is front of house. Service is friendly and efficient and prices reasonable. Between us we sampled 8 dishes and all were excellent. Tables are outdoor under large umbrellas in a small piazza along Via di Mezzo. Recently opened, we look forward to visiting again soon.More
