I am a US resident who visits relatives in this part of the UK from time to time and we've made a habit of always having a meal out at the Highwayman because of the friendly and welcoming atmosphere, good service and great choice of food. Over the years I have visited this pub we've always enjoyed the variety of... More

Nice food, but service was a little lacklustre for a saturday night. For a lovely suffolk pub/restaurant, we thought it odd that they had a japanese lager on tap, instead of something of a more local origin, but each to their own. We waited a while before our order was taken. The pies were tasty, and dessert was of a... More

We were a party of 9. The landlord was very welcoming and was great with the kids. The food and service was excellent and the steak pie was perfect

This restaurant is all you could wish for. The proprietor and his wife make you welcome, are very attentive and prepare and serve the best food around. They obviously enjoy looking after their customers and feeding them exceptional food. Our visit couldn't be faulted.

We had a family birthday celebration of 15 people for Sunday lunch today. Fantastic food and hospitality from all. Highly recommend and we will certainly be returning. Thank you to all.

We stopped here on our way to Norfolk and were warmly welcomed by the licencee. The staff were attentive and the menu was comprehensive and not over priced. Our food was delicious and promptly served. Would certainly return when next passing by.

Thoroughly enjoyable lunch enjoyed by five of us on Sunday 16 October. David is the perfect host and made us all feel extremely welcome, a proper landlord. The roast dinner was beautiful and very well priced. Mum is a wheelchair user and was accommodated perfectly, she was most impressed with the visit.

Dined here for a Saturday lunch in transit from Norwich to Essex. The licensee was very accomodating and helpful. I believe his wife is the chef and our meals were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and my daughter salivated over the sticky toffee pudding.

The environment is nice but obviously a new build trying to be old. The service was incredibly slow from the moment of entering. The poor waitress was doing all she could to keep up yet the food coming out of the kitchen was so slow. The manager clearly needs to get to grips with this as when it did arrive... More

We just visited the pub for lunch on the way to Norwich, the host was very friendly and we had lovely baguettes which were good value. Would definitely recommend for a stop.

A friendly family welcome is extended to all who visit The Highwayman, a grade II listed 17th century timber framed building that has been sympathetically extended. Located on the A140, just a few minutes outside Ipswich, Needham Market and Stowmarket in Suffolk, The Highwayman is easily accessible and an ideal meeting point for all occasions.David & Olga took over the running of The Highwayman restaurant in Ipswich in October 2004 and warmly welcome everyone to sample the honest homecooked food, a good selection and well kept real ales. The main restaurant and galleries provide a traditional and relaxing atmosphere in the which to dine amongst soft lighting that compliments the exposed oak frame of the building. Our food is all about the ingredients which, whenever possible, are locally sourced, seasonal and always freshly prepared. In particular a relaxing Sunday lunchtime at The Highwayman is sure to become a tradition. Tuck into roast rib of beef with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables.
