The restaurant is worth the anxious drive up the mountain. The food is locally sourced or even from their own livestock. The interior is Austrian cozy with great wooden craftsmanship. The staff is friendly and the food portions are generous. I had the 250 gram streak which I would highly recommend. I had a surprisingly good pumpkin soup with ginger... More

Very good authentic food, super service, great view, best hospitality. Remember to bring cash, they had trouble with card machine. If you stay in Matrei this is a must!:-)

The restaurant is located in the middle of the mountain, far from anything else. The view is magnifiscent and the whole environment very cozy. The girl serving with really gentle, spoke english and was trying to help us in anyway she could. The food was lovely, big portions and well cooked. Just make sure you go when the kitchen is... There were 14 of us for a fantastic home made, wholesome dinner during our travels to Matrei. The owner and wait staff spoke very good English, but it was nice to have family there to translate the more intricate details of the meals. The drinks offered were delicious....I had the Elderberry (?) drink that had fresh meadow herbs and flowers... More

It is quite seldom that I get that impressed by a restaurant. Located quite cosy within the mountains a 20 minutes trip away from the village of Mattrai in Austria. I found a very creative, local cusine which tasted perfect! Unkrautsoup, Lamp baked in hay, a tomato soup so tasty I never ate a better one before. Secret of her... More

My husband had seen a cooking show in Australia about this restaurant and was keen to include eating there on our holiday. We drove to the restaurant which is overlooking Matrei and its valley. It is a simply amazing view from this restaurant. Unfortunately for us, it was raining on and off this day and we could not eat outside.... More

Lovely chalet on the hillside overlooking Matrei and the mountains. You can take an nice 'easy' walk through a pine forest up 400 m or drive. We particularly liked the wild 'weed' soup (Unkrautsuppe) and the regional raviolis (Schlipfkrapfen), but the Quendl Hendl (flowering wild thyme - Quendl, and chicken - Hendl) was exquisite largely due to the fresh wild... A genuine Austrian restaurant with Austrian specialties, own production of cheese, butter and own flesh and own grown vegetables. After 2 ½ hours of hiking you will be up to the restaurant with a breathtaking view and wonderful food and service of the staff. There are family members who work there. Very reasonably priced food and drink.
