I'd eaten many times at this Chef and Brewer pub and, when having a Sunday roast, had always found them to be reliably good until this autumn. The last two visits have been disappointing and I was embarrassed that two members of the family had poor roasts when we last visited, as did I. The sliced meats - various ones... More

I would just like to start by apologising about your experience last year in the autumn, so I am sorry for that. I can assure you we haven't gone blasé, we try our very best to please all and as you can see the majority of the good reviews on here are Sunday based. This said very occasionally things do... This pup nestled in a very delightful old fashioned village,is a god send after a very lengthy walk. The food is good service not bad, and the atmosphere really good. The local unique shops are well worth a visit.

Myself and a group of friends was here yesterday for Sunday lunch. We wanted to see Shere village and explore. Lovely little village, cute shops and not to mention its where the holiday was filmed! We had booked a table in advance, we did still have to wait around 10/15 minutes which wasn’t the end of the world as we... More

Nice looking country pub from the outside but we were really disappointed to find a sullen barman who took one of our orders for drinks but then seemed to think it was unreasonable that both of us would require a drink. Not a single word of welcome, conversation or humanity and an overall stinking attitude. Means we won't be going... More

Hi there, I would just like to start by apologising about the unwelcome feeling that you had, as you can see by other reviews this isn't a regular occurrence. We also do have a wide range of craft beers, there is almost an entire fridge dedicated to this, you only had to ask and I'm sure you would have been told.... More

We were taken here, by our daughter & son-in-law, on the 9th December 2016. I cannot speak more highly of our visit. This pub is in the prettiest of villages and as it was Advent, every house, shop, doorway, roof, window and tree was decorated with twinkly lights. It was so beautiful. The pub itself is so gorgeous, the staff... More

We were looking forward to an afternoon pub lunch in the White Horse today after hearing positive reviews about the food from friends. As we walked into the pub, we asked for a table for 4 people for lunch and was told very promptly that they were fully booked but that we could eat in the bar. This was fine,... More

I would like to start by apologising for the fact that you couldn't eat with us, you are quite right this is a business and as a business it is important to us that all of our guests leave happy. This also means the food service stops for walk-ins occasionally, because I'm quite sure you wouldn't have appreciated waiting over... More

Nestling amongst the lovely half-timbered buildings of Shere, close to the tiny bubbling River Tillingbourne, is a former 15th century farmhouse and Grade II Listed Building called The White Horse. It's hard to imagine an English country pub more idyllic. One of Hollywood's most romantic films 'The Holiday,' starring Cameron Diaz and Jude Law, was shot there. In fact, the charms of Shere have lured the creators of 'Four Weddings and a Funeral,' 'Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason,' and 'The Wedding Date' and 'Molly Moon' too.In its former life, The White Horse was a 15th century farmhouse called: 'The Cripps,' and it became an inn sometime in the 17th century. It is also rumoured to be a former smugglers' pub after a secret cellar was discovered during extensive renovations. Authentic timbers taken from Nelson's ship, 'Victory,' are thought to be part of the pub, and there are also some traditional village stocks on the premises too.Inside, private spaces, nooks and crannies set the scene for romantic dining whilst, outside, a shaded courtyard ensures the perfect setting for eating al fresco. Come rain or shine, The White Horse is a must for lovers of traditional British country pubs.

Bridget Jones- Press Reports (icSurrey Dec 4,2003, by John Williams)
Hollywood descended on St James' Church, Shere, for the filming of a major British film. International stars Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth, as well as a host of British comic actors, were involved in the filming of the sequel to Bridget Jones's Diary in the village.
Two hundred extras and crew bustled around the normally peaseful streets as a crowd of expectant onlookers jostled to see the celebrities. Tonnes of false snow were sprayed over the church and graveyard and throughout the morning the village experienced an early-winter blizzard. Several police officers attended the site to control the lorries that served the set and to try and contain the paparazzi photographers who were there to snap the stars.
