Had dinner at Magokoro. Small restaurant just below Goofy Cafe. No alcohol served but they encourage you to but from the ABC store next door and bring in. Uni and squid maki sushi was tasty, very interesting combination of briny squid and creamy uni. Chutoro (tuna belly), yellowtail and abalone sashimi were all very fresh Braised beef tongue on fired... More

If you are looking for some casual Japanese meals in the southernmost of the Waikiki region, Magokoro should be it. All the Japanese chefs and servers are friendly and informative and for the Waikiki region, their menu is quite reasonably priced. They are a little slow when it comes to service. I assume there may not be as many people... More

From the outside this place looks like a hole in the wall. In a way, it is a hole in the wall in a spot that will eventually be demolished to build another Hilton tower. Dining here reminds me of dining under the railway in Yurakcho - minus the train noise, cigarette smoke and business suits. Overall the food is... More

Great Japanese food for a reasonable price. Super find, BYO (We bought beer and sake from ABC store next door), We had the vegetable and prawn tempura, Braised pork and gyoza to share - this was more than enough for the two of us. Flavors were tasty, authentic and comparable to what you would have in Japan (or a decent... More

We went to Magokoro for dinner based on other TA recommendations and whilst a little hesitant based on the slightly unappealing street aspect ventured down the stairs into the quite busy restaurant. Extensive menu with a good range of Japanese staples. We went for a couple of different sets and were rewarded with fresh, tasty and filling Japanese dinner at... More

We went for lunch twice it was so good! They have great lunch specials where you get pork ginger, teriyaki/karage chicken or whatever you choose that comes with a salad, rice and miso soup. Great bang for your buck and very tasty and filling. Super lovely staff.

We were in Waikiki for 5 nights and we ate here twice. We enjoy Japanese cuisine and this checked off the box.

This is one of those gems you happen upon and then remember fondly. Really reminded me of a little restaurant in Japan. The lunch menu can't be beat - very good deals - I actually ended up coming here 3 lunch times during a conference visit. There's a sushi bar and small tables so it's comfortable to come solo. They... More

I have to say that I had low expectations walking into this restaurant, however the quality of food will not disappoint. I don't know why everyone is complaining about the no alcohol, they let us purchase whatever we wanted at the ABC store next door and drink until we were merry (at ABC prices!). We're actually going back tonight.

This "Hole in the Wall" Japanese restaurant is great! The food is super fresh, and the menu is quite limited, so when the ingredients are gone the dish is off the menu! That's a good thing! Maybe a little expensive - but the quality of the food makes up for it!
