First time trying this restaurant for dim sum. We eat alot of authentic chinese dim sum from our home town of Vancouver, Canada and Fook Lum just does not match the same taste or quality.
We had the shrimp dumplings, siu mai, chicken feet, beef balls, shrimp and chive dumpling, fried taro empanadas, and the soft tofu with syrup. Every savory item is $5.50 except for the tofu which was $7.
The only tasty item was the fried taro empanadas while everything else was not that good. There were only 3 little chicken feet in one order. The hot sweet tofu was not silky smooth at all.
I would say so far the best dim sum in HNL that we have tried is the Kapiolani Seafood but their prices are $6.50 each order vs $5.50 each here at Fook Lum. Imho, I think a dollar more per item is worth it when the food tastes much better at Kapiolani Seafood.

Since there have been no other reviews since my review in 2020, I am posting again.
Don't be surprised by the sign for Fook Lam Seafood Restaurant! It has nothing to do with Fook Lam, but I definitely recommend the porridge, xiaolongbao, and other dim sum!! I will definitely visit during my stay in Honolulu.
If you are worried about Chinatown, I recommend going in the morning for breakfast.
The market is lively and fun. There was no validation service for the Cultural Plaza parking lot in November 2023 (paid).

DELICIOUS. We came as a very large group and the staff were so accommodating. We had tea and 10 courses! Every single dish we ordered was amazing. Don’t forget to order the custard bread!

We arrived at the closing time (an hour earlier than Google listed). The dim sum was OK. Service was kind of pushy trying to get you to pick more dim sum dishes and full meals then was really needed for a full meal.

We had dim sum here in February, 2021, in the context of the Covid-19 epidemic. The servers were all wearing face masks, and the tables were spaced apart appropriately. We are very fond of dim sum, and we thought that the food was quite good. The siu mai were particularly good, as were the har gow. The dining room is not fancy, but the dim sum here is very good.

This place has great dim sum. They make it from scratch during the open hours of the restaurant. The service is also great. Highly recommend.

I live in California, so am very picky and set high expectation for Asia foods, especially when it comes to dim sum. I tried this restaurant for dim sum on a week day. It was not crowded when we arrived ~ 11:15, but it got very crowded around noon. The dim sum is pretty good. We had the Xiu mai, Daikon cake, soup dumpling, shrimp rolls, and chicken feed. The service staff was decent and tried hard to be attentive during busy lunch hours. Parking is easy if you park in the Chinese culture center parking structure, behind the restaurant. With validation, you only pay $1 for less than an hour or $2 for up to 2 hours.

This is our groups' go-to place to meet and catch up. We start early around 10 am, to beat the crowds and get great service. It gets hectic at the popular lunch hour times and you'll have the Hong Kong and Chinese experience with the barking of orders in Chinese, clanging of pots, and crowds of hungry people. You can go earlier to eat the Chinese breakfast staple, congee or jook, the savory rice gruel. However, dim sum is what they're known for. For 5 or 6 of us, we usually chip in $15 - $20 each including the tip and we always have leftovers and we're stuffed! We order the standards like siu mai and shrimp with spinach, pan fried chicken bao and whatever comes our way, we try. They're all delicious! Their thin and crispy Hong Kong noodle with choy sum is so addictive with the crunchy noodles and tasty sauce. Their vegetables with garlic sauce is not too salty and very yummy. People who eat here like it because the fried items aren't greasy, the dim sum is well-prepared and sauces are not overwhelming. The parking with validations is between $1 - $4 depending on how long you stay. If you have an electric vehicle, there are city municipal lots across the street for free parking.

Dim sum gets 4 stars, but service and dim sum selection is 3 stars at best. I have not found a true go-to dim sum place yet in Honolulu. Fook Lam is a good choice with some solid dim sum dishes - ha gow, turnip cake, sea food tofu skin wrap and tripe.
Ordered a rice roll (cheung fun) with shrimp but it came without shrimp. Cart waitresses were more interested in pushing items I didn’t want then asking if I needed something else.
In the scheme of dim sum choices in Honolulu, Fook Lam is adequate and I would return. However, I’m still looking for a go-to place.

We happened on Fook Lam while looking for a recommended restaurant nearby. What a pleasant surprise. We enjoyed both Dim Sum and a couple of dishes from the menu. Service was excellent and very friendly. One of the most reasonably priced meals we enjoyed in Honolulu. Chili sauce readily available to add spice to the Cantonese cuisine

One advantage to this place is it opens at 8 am; by that time it is already full of locals. Dim sum and congee are hot and piping. Waitresses are very polite and helpful. Prices are comparable to other Chinese restaurants in the plaza; parking is validated for the plaza parking lot.

So, our first choice was actually Legend Seafood right around the corner. That just happened to be first from where we were walking from and it was raining. Checked on seating. At least half-hour wait. Okay. We get our number and the five of us wait with the crowd outside. Meanwhile, I check the Google map and see Fook Lam right down the plaza "past the people playing mah jong" our guidebook says. I say I'll just check out the wait there. Sure enough, no wait. There were diners, so it looked inviting. And sure enough, there were a number of people playing mah jong outside along the river. That's actually your cue if you're searching for the restaurant.
The dim sum was good, inexpensive, and varied. The xiaolongbao soup dumplings were especially good, measuring up well against some of the best we ever had in San Francisco's Chinatown. Service was perfunctory, but that's really all you need. Stand up. Point to what looks good. Done. And enjoy!

Prices are $3.50+ per steamer depending on size.
Offers all standard dim sum menu items. No stand outs in my opinion.
Does not have chili oil but does offer hot mustard.
Waiters will push carts or carry them out on trays to offer to guests.
