Great hot dog joint on Route 66

Ate here in May 2024, as part of a special event with a large crowd. Menu choice was limited because the event, but they did have a wide variety of hot dogs and sandwiches, with some specials. The two regular hot dogs that I got, with fries, were very good. Seating is outdoors- overall a great lunch spot.

Great stop on a road trip!

Stopped by on our way to Phoenix from the Grand Canyon. Love the kitsch of a converted der Weinerschinzel! We had the Sonora hot dogs and they were delicious! Their chili fries with cheese and onions were also a hit. It was also interesting seeing the old buildings on the old Route 66 on our way to the place!

Breakfast Burrito…….WOW

So good……I usually have ordered a bratwurst with sauerkraut, but forever have heard about the breakfast burrito. Finally I got there before they stopped breakfast for the day. I had the breakfast burrito and……..WOW……try it, you’ll go back for more

Doing business out of an old Der Weinerschnitzel, these guys have a breakfast burrito that won “Best of Flagstaff” several years in a row, and it IS pretty good. However, I would recommend staying away from this place for anything else. Hot dogs are okay, but stale, mushy buns and limp, greasy fries ruin the dog. Their only claim to fame is this is supposedly the place where Jackson Browne came up with the lyrics “Standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona” for the Eagles tune, “Take it Easy”. But, it’s not worth the bad experience just to be able to say you ate here.

Fantastic food and service

Route 66 Dog house is a must stop! Future trips will be planned around how easily I can here. The green chili dog, the slaw dog, and onion rings are amazing. The service is wonderful, the food is phenomenal, I can't say enough great things.

Great employees who were helpful and polite. Stopped in for a quick bite Saturday night. Had a All Beef Kraut Dog and a Chili Cheese Fry. Dog was pretty average. Chili Cheese Fry was great.

Lots More Than Hot Dogs!

This is THE place to go for a hot dog, but at the same time, there is much much more on the menu! I had a nice simple Kraut Dog. Good quality wiener, nice soft bun, ample but not excessive toppings. Enjoyed it greatly. I was really tempted by other things on the menu, like the pastrami sandwich, but figured, It's a hot dog joint -- first time there, gotta get a hot dog! The wife on the other hand went for the Fried Bologna Sandwich. Not many places offer this delicacy, and these folks did a very nice job of it -- ample bologna, fried just right, on a nice bun. When we visited, the drive-thru line was severely impacted by road construction right on their doorstep. Nevertheless, the staff moved folks thru in a fairly timely manner, despite it being right around the lunch hour.

Hot dogs, yes, fries even more!

We had planned to go to another restaurant in Flaggstaff, but this one caught our eye with it's unique drive through that actually runs through the middle of the building! The hot dogs were very good with some unique choices, but the French fries were so so good! Everything was cooked fresh, so it was a little bit slow, but the staff was friendly and we got to read the real story of the Eagles Take It Easy song while we waited.

A good lunch

Ended up here with my daughter after a dentist appointment nearby. I had an Ortega green Chile burger and it was quite good. I would be happy to come back for another. Nice staff if a bit limited in interaction due to the drive through.

Just had to drive thru

Great Chicago dog

I am originally from the Chicago area and in my travels I will order Chicago dogs wherever I am. Mostly they are terrible imitations and I am very disappointed. I keep trying and today I ordered one and it tasted just like home. If you like Chicago style hot dogs then stop here you won’t be disappointed.

We are visiting from SLC and I’m a lover of the Weinerschnitzl hot dog chain. So when we visit our daughters family in Flagstaff I have told them we were going to the Dog House. The items we really liked were the sour kraut dog, the chili cheese fries, and the corn dogs were amazing. The one most disappointing to me was the chili cheese dog. I could hardly tell there was any cheese added, And the chili was just not that flavorful. Overall it was a good experience and we would probably go back for some more corn dogs. It was a windy day anyway and the kids were a little grumpy to start with so we will have to go back and give it a real workout someday when timing is perfect.

Sometimes a hot dog can be one of the best meals it's not as if we have it often. In Vegas once we found a hotdog and a beer deal for a buck we are always game to try something different. A drive thru hot dog in Arizon on Route 66 why not.

Love the Chicago Dog
