Stopped here in Springfield for dinner. Great German fare and huge portions. My wife and I split a schnitzel and our son had a nice mac and cheese. Nice wine selection including a few nice German whites.More

Keith, we appreciate your nice review. Thank you! Schnitzel is German soul food and a great choice when confronting hot and muggy weather. Our Mac and cheese is delicious and just a tad different from most versions of the dish. While beer might come to...More

A great place to go with a group. Fun atmosphere, great food, pleasant wait staff. I can't eat there enough. If you visiting the area, do not pass this restaurant by, you will regret it.

Thanks for the nice review! Schnitzel has been a top seller on Fort Street for over 80 years. Our other most popular main course is scrod. We enjoy watching groups enjoying themselves. We hope that we will see again on Fort Street.

After travelling Europe for several weeks, I entered a depressive state, as I was suffering from Butterfly Shrimp withdrawal. These are the best damn shrimp I've ever to grace God's good Earth. They are lightly fried to a golden state, aromatic and tasteful! On the...More

Thanks for your nice review. It is always fun to watch first-time visitors (newbies) walking through the establishment and looking at the accumulation of steins and decorations. Most of our food is cooked to order and it takes some time, as you mentioned, but we...More

It's not often that you happen upon a restaurant with such authentic atmosphere and history. Stepping into the Fort, you feel as if you are in Germany in a time gone by. The food was good and plentiful - the schnitzel, in particular, was huge....More

Thanks for your nice review. Although our decor and much of the menu is Germanic, we also have a nice array of steaks and seafood. The pretzels are a fun way to start a meal and sharing is a good way to observe human nature,...More

This is one of the few "nice" remaining restaurants in downtown Springfield. The ownership changed hands a couple of years ago- almost went out of business but was "saved" by local business owners and everyone in the city was/is grateful for that. As a result,...More

We are glad that you still enjoy the establishment. Since the change in ownership some changes have been made, but the basic feeling is still the same. The classic dishes are still made from original recipes, some dating back over eighty years. Lunch is always...More

Thanks for the nice post. One of the nice things about the establishment is that even though there is a bit of a germanic accent the menu is varied and these summer days are perfect for a lobster roll,be it hot or chilled. My father...More

The burger is awesome, the sides are to die for (get the Brussel Sprouts!!! They have honey!!!!), the pretzel was incredible!!!! Beyond that, the bartender was superb, very attentive, and didn't mind that we were there fifteen minutes past her closing time. Wonderful place!
