The two of us were looking for local cuisine. I also had a hankering to try a mezcal margarita. We had been to a couple of downtown restaurants, both of which we enjoyed. We found everything we were looking for at Tomasita’s. Our food, (chalupas for me, a tamale plate for my wife), was excellent, with generous portions. I really enjoyed my mezcal margarita, and there were many drink options to choose from. We barely had room for the complementary sopaipillas (lightly fried dough pastries), which were a delightful finish, topped with butter and local honey. Service was friendly and I suspect the reason there are not more 5 point reviews is that, on a Thursday evening this large restaurant was packed, with many people waiting. Large parking lot. We waited a half hour, using that time to tour the interesting rail yard area so the wait was not a problem. We asked for an outdoor table, of which there were a few. The outdoor courtyard was a little less crowded, and gave us a view of trains coming in, which we enjoyed. We felt less like tourists here — it seemed to be a largely local crowd. We’d definitely come back again on a future visit.

Tomasita's was recommended to me from a friend, who is a local and it did not disappoint! We were there on a Friday night and it's obvious how popular this place is by the lack of parking (a great problem to have for a business!). There were 2 of us and we were originally told there would be a 30 minute wait but I think it was only about 10 minutes. I had the tacos and my 22 year old daughter had the quesadillas, after asking which was spicier between the red & green chile, and deciding on the green because the waiter said the green was less spicy. Apparently the green chile was still very spicy, and my daughter loves spicy stuff, so if you're looking for authentic, spicy green chile, this is the place for you! The huge sopapillas were delicious and we loved the butter/cinnamon mixture served with them. We enjoyed a really great, unique pinyon cheesecake dessert. If ever in the area again, we'll definitely be back!

The place was packed for dinner at 5pm; it was Sunday and in the winter. The reviews and my condo rental recommended it. But they moved the people in and out steadily, so most didn't have to wait too long. It is very big with multiple sections. Lots of brick and Spanish decor. Noisy. I wanted to visit a place that served New Mexican foods, not just a chain Mexican restaurant, and this fit the bill. ===NOTE, a few tips to tourists: they serve the (cooked) beans whole, not "refried." You dont get free chips and salsa to snack on. NMexico is famous for their red and/or green chili sauce (you choose... which one... and how mild or hot). They serve the enchiladas stacked, with a flat tortilla on the top and one on the bottom, and not rolled. And the Sopapillas are a square fluffy piece, served with 'honey flavored butter." === The portions are big; and they have a Carry-Out Order window in the lobby. All the other reviews agree that the meals are tasty.

Tomasita’s is enormously popular. The food is reasonably priced and it has that local family hangout vibe. But I didn’t enjoy it much. The wait to get in was long, the table felt sticky, it was hard to hear, the food was just okay overall (except the sopapillas which were great) and their were two pieces of meat in my vegetarian chile relleno (yuk). On the plus side, the service was attentive despite the surrounding feeling of chaos. I won’t go back; not my kind of place.

Cut to the chase; the food here is very, very good, but the Flan is rockstar, which may be the best I’ve ever had in Santa Fe (here 30+ years). OK, we haven’t dined here in decades (Bad dog!) but went for lunch, and we regret we haven’t gone in so long. The food was outstanding, and it was some of the best New Mexican Restaurants in town thus far (we are still given Cafe Castro’s tops in red chile, but Tomasita’s is excellent). I had the Chimayo Plate; the pork tamale was one of the best I’ve had in town. The pork was moist, and the Masa was really tasty, a perfect mix of the two. Red chile has decent heat. The restaurant has a sign saying it is hot, likely for all the tourists. I would say it isn’t too hot, but it does have a decent bite. The beef enchilada was lovely in a pool of green chile. Rice and beans are also very good. My wife had the Carne Adovada, which was delicious. The pork was tender and, again, great red chile. The sopaipillas are good, not the best I’ve had, but tasty. They came with honey butter; I usually prefer just honey; maybe they can provide it if I ask for some next time. Now the flan; just amazing flavor and texture. Yes, they claim it is smooth and silky, and it really is. Often, Flan is a bit ‘rubbery’ or gelatinous, overcooked, or not really fresh. Not here; the flan is super silky, not too sweet, and just amazing. If you think you don’t like Flan because you’ve had a poor experience in the past, do try the Flan at Tomasita’s, it may change your mind. Gabriel, our server, was efficient and friendly. The food came out quickly despite the restaurant being filled. Tourist or local, Tomasita’s is a real winner; no wonder they have been in business for 50 years.

This is an institution in Santa Fe. Everyone recommends this place for Mexican food. Very large restaurant, not o. The square but close to train station. We all ordered the chicken chili with a side of sopaipilla ( wonderful dipping pastry bread). Very filling! Great for a cold day- which it was a large snowstorm day here in Santa Fe! Great with a cold beer!

Chose this because of a 4 star rating. What a disappointment. The main restaurant is cramped. We were sat at a table next to where they drop the dishes / drinks off. The staff did not care how much noise when dropping those bins - we asked to move. Food was below average. The chicken in the tacos were so salty, it came across store bought, not fresh cooked chicken. Other than salt, absolutely no flavor to their tacos. We decided to get our check early and let them trash the rest of the food. Over $50 wasted. The only positive to this restaurant, the staff was friendly.

I really hate to post a 1-star review, but here I am. At 4:30pm, I ordered delivery through the link on their website for 5:45pm. 5:45pm came and went without so much as an update, so I called the restaurant to check. The first person I spoke with via phone was so kind and apologetic, and told me the order had been picked up late at 5:45 exactly. He also told me to call back if the order had not been delivered within 10 minutes. I waited to call back until 6:20 (30 minutes later) when we still had no food. The new person who answered the phone at 6:20 was so incredibly rude—he told me that it was entirely the delivery driver’s fault, not theirs (even thought the food was not picked up until the time it was supposed to be delivered, and the delivery was linked through their website) and to go ahead and leave the restaurant a bad review. So here I am, doing exactly what their staff member on the phone instructed—sorry to do so, but their staff member gave me no choice.

My wife and I ate at Tomasitas last evening. She ordered the taco plate with shredded chicken, and I the burrito with carne adovada with both red and green chilies, plus a side of grilled vegetables. All were excellent. And the sopaipillas were like delicious clouds of puffed pastry.
We were fortunate to arrive a bit after 5 pm. So even though they were busy, we were able to be seated right away. When we left though, there must have been 30 or more folks waiting to get in. It's a popular place (for good reason), so plan accordingly. That being said, the service is excellent, and things move along very smoothly, but not rushed, at the tables. We're going back again tonight.

No wonder this restaurant is so successful, with a 35-minute wait at 7 pm in the off season. The food is excellent, the service friendly and speedy, and the waiter accommodated my dietary requests for no cheese ( in a Mexican restaurant!) and gluten-free tortillas. The atmosphere is pleasant, with painted murals of Mexican life. And they had a table for me in only 15 minutes!

No visit to Santa Fe is complete without a bit of face-stuffing.
We hit Tomasita's for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We waited about fifteen minutes. I partook of the most excellent chicken tacos, which came with a side of beans, pico gallo, and salsa. Leece had the veggie burrito, which she pronounced as exceptionally well done, with grilled onion, peppers, squash, and refried beans. Both dishes were perfectly seasoned. A lot of these highly touted eateries are overblown in reputation; in our experience Tomasita's always lives up to their billing.
The price on most of their dishes is very reasonable, especially compared to some of the other eateries in the area.
They also have a range of excellent margaritas.
The building provides a great ambience as well.

Tomasita's is located in the Railyard District right next to where the train boards. It is a standard place as far as looks are concerned but well above normal when taste and quantity are compared. Go there hungry because you will receive all you can handle. I had the pork chops dinner and it was very tasty and filling. It was more than I could finish when you include the sopaipillas that come with it. The frozen margaritas are delicious and reasonably priced. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Mexican food .

This is the BEST New Mexican food. The chili is perfectly hot, the ingredients fresh. And the portions are generous. The prices are reasonable too! The best part though is the service. Our server (her name was America) went over and beyond, was genuinely cheerful, and personalized my meal. We have come three times in three years and have never been disappointed. It is our favorite in Santa Fe for dinner.

Family run Tomasita's has its original location in Santa Fe (50 year anniversary) and this is a larger, less quaint location, but food and service were excellent. New Mexican cuisine is the heart of the menu and is well done. Be careful about red and green chili (perhaps control quantity by having it provided on the side)! Prepared from fresh ingredients so that flavors come through.

Expect a wait — there are no reservations, it’s popular, and it’s one of the few options for Sunday dining out.
I had the tasty chicken chalupas — 2 crispy corn shells molded into small wavy bowls, filled with shredded chicken and loaded with toppings, including a generous amount of guacamole. Large, puffy sopapillas included, served with a side of honey butter.
