I do not want to turn you off to this place as the food, both for dinner and the brunch is fabulous. Its just not 4 star chef cuisine. Veal snitzel was very good. Sunday brunch was expansive but reminiscent of the run of the...More

We had lunch buffet at the Colonial room. The service is very good, however the food is very underwhelming- Hot dishes were too salty, salad bar very limited, and pasta bar sauces were too oily.

Ate here twice for breakfast and brunch. Good selections and tasty foods. Staffs are friendly and tentative. Prices are reasonable. Will come back.

While staying at this magnificent and historic hotel, my husband and I decided to go to the Colonial Room Restaurant at 9pm. Not expecting a huge crowd, we loved the quiet atmosphere with comfortable chairs, carpeted floors and wood work to die for. Our table...More

Go for the vintage decor, but stay for the food. Excellent waitstaff. The German style schnitzel is pretty authentic. Nice portion and bread is good, too.

Unbelievable. Utterly amazing buffet. Well worth the money. The bread pudding I'd my favorite. Turkey, prime rib, red snapper, pork loin, omelet and waffle bar. Shrimp and salmon. Strawberry ice cream. Can't wait for next year. Mmmm. Thanks Menger.

Hello. The Colonial Room does not serve American colonial food. I would categorize the menu as continental cuisine. I imagine the term "colonial" refers to the fact that Texas was colonized by Americans when it was still... More

Description
Built as an addition to the original hotel and later remodeled by San Antonio architect Atlee B. Ayres in 1912, the Colonial Room Restaurant reflects the prevailing neoclassical style of its time. Decades of elaborate balls and parties have been hosted in this room.Among the celebrities who have dined here are Presidents Grant and McKinley, Robert E. Lee, and French actress Sarah Bernhardt. The Colonial Room Restaurant's famous mango ice cream was served at both of President Clinton’s inaugurations. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the Colonial Room Restaurant features a fabulous noontime brunch and traditional entrees such as prime rib au jus and lamb shank with linguini. Don't miss the popular Sunday brunch buffet, which tastes even better at a table in the garden courtyard.
