Reviews were mixed, but my husband loves these old classic dining rooms. Dining room was mostly empty and pretty dark, adding to my concern. But the dinner was GREAT. We shared the shrimp and crab cocktail, 10 large shrimp with lumps of crab, and remoulade and just right cocktail sauce. Also shared the smoked salmon app, another WOW. 8 ounces... More

I have never known the history of The Menger Hotel, so seeing and reading about the space was a real delight. The setting is really lovely and the brunch buffet was very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend it. Then read pudding was so wonderful-- totally worth the value.

We had Sunday Brunch at the Colonial Room. It was a typical good layout with a variety of food to select from. The peel and eat shrimp were very good - large, fresh, and tasty. The atmosphere is very pleasing within the Historic Menger Hotel. We didn't see any juice set out for serving, and it was after the meal... More

Perhaps many hotel dining rooms either in USA or UK have had their day--and some, probably rightly so! But a classic still lives in The Menger Hotel's Colonial Room. I am happy to report that it is alive and well and I hope will be with us for some years to come. The ambience of the turn-of-last-century décor matched the... More

Had the Breakfast buffet ($ 16.99) Okay choices, they did have an omelet station manned by a very friendly guy as well as fresh belgian waffles. My fried eggs were made ot order and they were well done, crispy edges. Potatoes on buffet were not quite lukewarm. Everything else fine...Would only return for breakfast if too lazy to find a... This is an outstanding, historic venue with elegant décor and amazing flavors. The experience is surrounded by the magnificent music of Mr. Fernando SantaFe, a fantastic Spanish guitarist that makes moments memorable and magical. Do not hesitate to visit with Family, friends or that special someone if you are looking for a one of a kind experience. Dr. Cortes

The Menger Hotel and its staff is great and is a super experience. The Colonial Room Restaurant, no so much. I'll chalk it up to a one-time problem that folks have from time to time. But before ever going to the Colonial Room again, I'll sure to check the current reviews so that our 3 days of disappointment during Thanksgiving... More

We went to the Menger to eat at the Bar. But the bar was too dark for lunch and tried the Colonial Room. It was excellent. There were a mixture of regular patrons and tourists. We had the buffet. The vegetables were excellent. The Bread pudding with rum sauce was the best I have ever had and I have been... More

Built as an addition to the original hotel and later remodeled by San Antonio architect Atlee B. Ayres in 1912, the Colonial Room Restaurant reflects the prevailing neoclassical style of its time. Decades of elaborate balls and parties have been hosted in this room.Among the celebrities who have dined here are Presidents Grant and McKinley, Robert E. Lee, and French actress Sarah Bernhardt. The Colonial Room Restaurant's famous mango ice cream was served at both of President Clinton’s inaugurations. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the Colonial Room Restaurant features a fabulous noontime brunch and traditional entrees such as prime rib au jus and lamb shank with linguini. Don't miss the popular Sunday brunch buffet, which tastes even better at a table in the garden courtyard.
