The food here was great, highlight of our trip to San Antonio. I got the rueben and it was amazing. They also have homemade root beer that you can't pass up.

full of flavor- and I'm talking about the employees! Texas Diner food. Great Potato Cakes and Soups. Loved the atmosphere, hope to go back and try the desserts. Big portions. Loved our waitress, Karen. Great value. Lots of locals. l

Family owned since 1917, this is the type of place I look for. In a historic building with a great atmosphere, even a bar. We got here before 8am, within 15 minutes it was packed full. Simple menu, just right. Enjoyed a delicious breakfast that was priced well. A true delicatessen.

We arrived and waited 30 minutes before getting water or drinks. Another 30 minutes for food and a long time for check as well. Very understaffed and inefficient. My family's food was average and edible. The famous split pea soup was well, disgusting. I ate one bite. Not a fan and don't recommend.

Andrea, so sorry you were disappointed. This sounds like a very unusual experience so perhaps try us another time! More

Maybe I built it up too much, but Schilos Delicatessen was a real disappointment. It was not location or ambiance or wait staff that was the problem...it was the food. If you have ever had authentic German Food, you will be disappointed. The sausages were fine but the sides were far from traditional. They did not have the flavor that... More

Schilo's is a fun place to take the family if you are visiting the river walk. They are famous for their homemade root beer that you can buy by the pitcher. We sampled many different items on their menu including their split pea soup, hot dogs, reuben sandwich, sausages and potato pancakes. Our favorite by far was the potato pancakes.... More

Site is historic building with original tile floors, pressed ceiling, wooden furniture & decor, horned animal heads on walls, long tenured wait staff. Food is reasonably priced hardy German style with great split pea soup, Reuben sandwiches, meat loaf, etc. Popular so there can be lines.

Certainly not a fancy place, been here since the late 30's or so, but very good, simple, German food, a real find in Mexican/BBQ/Beef centered San Antonio! The creamiest root beer we've ever had. About the best Split Pea Soup I've had, other then what my Dad made! We had the potato pancakes, three large cakes, with what I think... More

We arrived to a large crowd outside. No big deal. We are in San Antonio the same time as a bowl game. We waited to be seated. The hostess seemed to be on top of it. Our coffee came quickly. And then I thought our waitress must have quit. I realize the food is made to order, so I had... More

This place has a solid charm but the service was poor and the wait for the food and the bill was quite long. Food prices are quite cheap. Food itself is good. Not great, but solid German fare. Excellent root beer. Split pea soup is good. Club sandwich is what I could make myself at home: store bought plain toasted... More
