I had driven by this place many times when on visits to SA to see family, and always saw that it looked busy. We finally had the opportunity to go there on our last visit and were very pleasantly surprised. The building has been well-restored and they also have a lovely outdoor space. The menu has a nice mix of... More

We live about an hour from San Antonio and a few years ago I used TRIPADVISOR to find a good Mexican food place. It turns out that La Fonda was the highest rated. It is a classic in SA and lunch or Sunday brunch on there back patio is the most relaxing experience. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable... More

We had been in San Antonio for a few days and were looking for a good place to eat outside the downtown area. This is in a nice, artsy neighborhood with great architecture. The restaurant has a long history dying back to the early 1900s. The food and service were very good. Great enchiladas and fajitas! The portions are large... More

What a spectacular ambience, food and presentation. Something for every palate including vegetarian. Adored the spinach enchiladas.

Food at this popular restaurant was OK but not what we had expected. After a very helpful waiter took our order, another one appeared to take our order. We explained we had already ordered, our food arrived, . . . and the server disappeared. I had to flag down another to order a drink.

Our server was emphatic about how great their margaritas are so that's what we ordered. They were basic drinks...not special. Water glasses were slow to be refilled as were the chips. Our server seemed somewhat overwhelmed with the number of tables she had but there were several other people helping her. My enchiladas suizas had a nice flavor as did... More

Great service. Beautiful presentation. Only downside: Potatoes under the steak were loaded with too much cayenne .
