A different take on traditional Mexican food, but amazing nonetheless! Monica was a great waitress and her personality made the dinner even better!

Good news: they take reservations and use open table app so makes it easy to make reservations; reservations highly recommended no matter what day of the week. They did seat us within minutes of our reservation time. Good news: waiter quickly appeared and took our...More

La Fonda is well worth the drive from downtown, in a charming building with a picturesque patio. The menu is not strictly Tex Mex, though it does that very well, but has other Mexican and Latin dishes, like the scrumptious Amberjack Veracruz I had, the...More

I've heard about this place for quite some time now. I was visiting family for Father's Day weekend and I have to say this is one the best Mexican restaurants I have ever dined at. If you're searching for food with authenticity and great flavor...More

I don't know why everyone raves about this place🤷‍♀️. Went here by accident, we were tourist for the weekend. It is an older building and caters to the upscale crowd. When we first walked in, we were in shorts and tennis shoes and given a...More

We had a fantastic meal of authentic Mexican food-different menu than most Tex-Mex places. The service was excellent and the outdoor patio was a great find for this gem located near downtown.

The food was wonderful with a nice price point. This is Mexican cuisine, San Antonio style, kicked up a notch. I had the chile rellono stuffed with steak and it was very good. Their chips and salsa are also very good. I don't believe they...More

Being married to a native Texan and having lived in Texas for decades we think know something about great Mexican cuisine. That said, we always eat at La Fonda each and every time we visit San Antonio. La Fonda's food is nothing short of outstanding...More

Not sure
Hi, We lived in San Antonio as newly weds in 1966. Since our 50th anniversary is almost here, we are returning to where our marriage began for a week in November. One of our fondest memories was eating Puffy avocado tacos at La Fonda Del Norte. Is it true that they are no longer on the menu? We understand that 50 years of progress means that many things are different. The river is not the dark dangerous place we knew. We are looking forward to seeing the showplace it has become. We are not the young kids we once were!!

Give them a call about the puffy tacos! It is not infrequent that something will not be on a menu, but they make it for you! The current owner John Berry (I think son of the founder), is very good. I also second the... More

Located just a few minutes from downtown in architecturally rich Monte Vista, La Fonda on Main is the oldest Mexican food restaurant in San Antonio. La Fonda serves both the best of Tex-Mex cuisine as well as authentic dishes of interior Mexico in a fun and casual setting with beautiful patio dining. Open daily serving lunch and dinner as well as a memorable Sunday brunch menu, we offer a full bar with a wide variety of liquor, beer and wine. Our famous margaritas are made with hand-squeezed limes and your choice of a large selection of tequilas.
