Who knew that you could get top notch fish and seafood in the middle of the desert?
We took a chance on Kingfisher based on prior reviews and advertising and it was even better than we anticipated. The appetizers, salads, main courses and even dessert and specialty coffees were all top notch.
We went for dinner twice during a week long stay in Tucson and had two different servers who were both excellent. At the first dinner the server recommended a substitution on the fish of the night for the nut crusted sauté which ended up to be perfect. The second dinner was the night of my husband’s birthday and the new server also made good recommendations and provided a free dessert for his birthday.
Kingfisher has been around for awhile and sits in a rather odd spot (car repair places & other unlikely businesses nearby) but don’t be fooled by appearances. The kitchen really knows what they are doing, the ingredients are incredibly fresh and the wait staff is on top of their game.
It gets crowded at the bar and even in the dining room so go early and/or make reservations. If you like fresh fish and seafood that is thoughtfully prepared (and not fried to death) you will enjoy Kingfisher from start to finish.

We decided to go here early (5:45 p.m.) on a Monday night and had a much better experience than we've had later on weekends. First, there were plenty of spaces in the parking lot and we didn't have to drive way down a dark, side street, looking for a place to park the car. Second, the restaurant had diners at only a few tables, so both the excellent staff and the kitchen proved to be fast and efficient. Third, the noise level in this situation was low and allowed my husband and me to talk with each other at a normal volume.
The greeter sat us at one of the booths in the back, where we had a nice view of the restaurant, which includes tables as well as booths. I found my menu easy to read without a flashlight so the lights had yet to be dimmed to their usual low. Though the menu features mostly seafood, my husband ordered a burger. I went with one of the evening specials -- swordfish.
Our meals arrived quickly and I considered my fish to be superb, perfectly cooked, nicely seasoned and moist. It was absolutely delicious. My husband raved about his burger and shoestring fries. I tasted one of the fries and kept helping myself to more, because they were so good. We found the servings to be so ample that we had no room for dessert.
By the time we left about an hour later, only a few tables remained empty. We were glad we chose to come here early and plan to do so again..

Celebrated our 29th Wedding Anniversary at Kingfisher Bar & Grill, had heard good things, so this was our first visit, we were greeted and seated immediately, even though the parking lot was full, had to park down the street. Our waitress was Outstanding, walked us through the wine list, and each menu option we were considering. We started with oysters on the 1/2 shelf, and while delicious, they were VERY small compared to other places we have had them, none the less good flavor. I had the Sea Bass and wife had the Hawaiian crusted fish, both were to DIE for. I initially thought it was a small portion, but at the end of the night we were full. Dessert menu was brought and while we rarely do dessert, wife wanted the pecan Carmel pie, it was excellent, bonus, it was free for our anniversary. All in all it was a nice place, great ambiance and great staff. If I would critique anything it would be the bench seating put us both in uncomfortable spots, moved around but just wasn't nice, will ask for a table and chairs next time. Look forward to trying the Lamb and Ribs next time.

We try Kingfisher once every 6 or 7 years and are consistently disappointed. Everything but the bar is bad at this restaurant: hard to make a reservation, inadequate parking, crowded and very noisy interior, tables too close together, seating is uncomfortable, food is never very good, over-priced, etc. On our last visit my wife was served the wrong food, and my so-called ahi tuna was more likely yellowtail (and tasted like it had been frozen and thawed one too many times). Almost impossible to dine gluten-free here.

So, a few days ago, for our anniversary, we decided to go here for lunch, as we remembered the delicious seafood they serve. We arrived around 1:30, and the parking lot was full, which is always a good sign. We walked in, and the restaurant was more than half empty.
Last time, we were here, the place was humming. This time, there was something gloomy about it. The atmosphere seemed more morose than lunch after a funeral. The tables were completely bare, the few people sitting and eating appeared sullen, and unhappy, no decor, except for a huge arrangement of artificial flowers, and elevator music piping in. There was no cheerfulness, no spark in the place.
We were tempted to leave, but we had come all this way, so decided to stay. Since we were celebrating, we wanted some liveliness around us. This place was dead. (And this was a Friday!) I know that they can't do anything about customer personalities, however, what is the reason, for the gloomy atmosphere? Perhaps, it rubs off on the customers.
We both had the Atlantic Salmon, and it was perfect, moist, and delicious. For us, the portion was just the right size, as we took nothing home. No complaints about the food, or drink, or service. However, this restaurant seems to be a "come and eat and go" place, instead of a pleasant, enjoyable, relaxing experience. As we left, we passed the bar, which looked like a happy place. If we go again, we will seat ourselves there.

If you want the best seafood in Tucson, this is the spot. Better make reservations or you will be waiting in line. Even on a Monday this place is very busy. Great seafood menu of choices. Their website has their menu to their delicacies. Our food was cooked to exact requests and large portions. Adult beverages were excellent. They offer meat dishes also but all four had different fish dishes. The restaurant is highly rated and after eating there it is understandable. Try it you will definitely enjoy your meal and the phenomenal desserts!

Both times it has been take out due to the COVID 19 issue. The fish sandwich at one time then weeks later the fish dinner plates for two of us topped off the evening at home. Fresh ingredients prepared with the right amount of flavor. Next visit will be one of the other selections on the menu to get my variety in. Nice pieces of cod with fries. (I cannot call fries, Chips but that is just me) I was told to put the fish dinners into the oven to warm up if it was going to be a longer drive home. That suggestion was perfect and did not detract from the taste. These folks really care about the customers enjoying the food.

This was our first meal at a Tucson restaurant in 6 months because of the pandemic and we felt very safe with their safety protocols. Kingfisher consistently has a the best fish in town and we often choose the Hawaiian fish, the sea bass or their fish and chips...all are outstanding choices. During the pandemic, we tried their take out menu several times and were very pleased with their grilled baby back ribs and also the seafood lasagna. Both reheated well at home and were delicious. Last night we went to celebrate their partial re-opening and ordered the pork tenderloin stuffed with mushrooms and apricots. It was wonderful, juicy and very tender. To start, we split the ceviche of rock shrimp and bay scallops.....OMG, so good. Next time, I may get the ceviche alone as my entree. Delicious and not too filling in this hot weather. Great fish, but don’t hesitate to try the non-fish items on their menu...youn won’t be disappointed.

We tried Kingfisher for the first and last time. The decor is way outdated, to the point of gloomy and depressing. The atmosphere was like being at a funeral. The waiter had to read the special off a card and without taking a breath moved on to ask what we wanted to drink... No asking if we had any questions.
My husband had the Salmon, which was cooked perfectly but served with palenta? Not really a great combination.
I had the fish and chips. The chips were bits and pieces of French fries, oily.. Looked awful on plate. They advertised BIG Chips but they are pathetic little bits that looked like the bottom of the fryer.
We did not order wine or appetizers. The atmosphere had us passing on a special evening.
Time to paint, update and consider presentation on the plate with quality food!! That big mess of artificial flowers from the 70's needs to go. Get a Seafood decor in there!

Did their take out of the Father’s Day special paella tonight. It was one of the best palleas I have ever tasted! They were kind enough to tell us after I said we were not huge eaters that one portion would probably be enough for the two of us. It was, although next time I’ll order two portions just because it’s so good and very filling, very delicious. My husband and I both enjoyed it and will watch for it to be featured again so that we can re-order. Shrimp, muscles, scallops and Chorizo all cooked to perfection! Rice was fantastic.

We both had delicious clam chowder and was happy it did not contain bacon for garnish. Was planning to order the tuna prepared as done but the staff suggested that it be order as medium rare. It turned out to be the best choice for flavor and appearance. Squash that came with it was also flavorful and inviting. This was our first visit to this restaurant and will return when we are in Tucson again.

We got there at 7PM and were seated immediately. I ordered a glass of wine and it took too long to get it. We ordered our food (fish for both of us) and it took too long to arrive and by the time it did both dishes were slightly overcooked. We see this all the time when we go out. Restaurants are understaffed and the food takes too long to arrive and is mediocre when it does get there and the service is mediocre as well because there are too many patrons for the available staff.

Wonderful seafood options, Shrimp cakes included a cup of chowder and a salad. Fried oysters were perfect and the clam chowder is probably the best in Arizona and many the entire SW as well. The Macadameian crusted yellow tail was exceptional and the sweet potato chips were delicate with fantastic flavor. Fish and chips were tasty and large servings accompanied by large amount of fries.
Service was excellent and prices were reasonable. Probable the best seafood restaurant in the Southwest.

A wonderful meal that was only a step or two away from five stars. I was a little leery of ordering seafood in Tucson but my ruby trout was wonderful, as was my husband’s mahi mahi. The oysters were more hit or miss. Steer clear of the Rocky Point oysters (small) but the Gulf of Mexico oysters were good. We also enjoyed the cheesecake and Kingfisher Coffee. Lovely service as well other than a small delay getting our dessert.

My friends wanted to really treat me for dinner and I let them! We started with a double order of the baked Oysters Rockefeller, white wine and a cocktail. It was the trout for me, sea bass and lobster rolls for my friends. It was all so beautifully served and such attentive service. We finished with coffee and a special dessert to share. The place is known to be swanky but very casual. With it's owners/chefs doing business for over 25 years, they have quite a good reputation for their food. I was very happy to have had my friends bring me here.
