We enjoyed breakfast at Barelas. The Huevos deluxe was tasty. I had the Carne Adovada and eggs. The meat was a bit fatty for my taste. Everything needed salt! I enjoyed the posole with green chile very much. The coffee house is very eclectic and rambles on and on..part of its charm.

Other than it has been there for over 70 years, I can't figure out why people eat there. The huevos rancheros were ok....the green chile was soopy. The place is dog-eared but there was a line outside (Saturday) waiting to get in. There is no accounting for taste. I guess people feel the need to belong to "the old New... More

This is as close to home as you're gonna get dinning out. We have never been disappointed at Barelas. Doesn't matter what you order-it's all excellent. From the huevos rancheros to the side of chicharones. The carne adovada is tenderly cooked to perfection in that red chile. So good. You can even order the carne adovada without chile(gasp!)and on the... More

Although they serve breakfast and lunch, breakfast is our favorite. Weekends are always crowded and loud, weekdays somewhat less. Everything we've ever tried on the menu has been just fantastic: tacos, pancakes, you name it. It's been great. Service is fast and friendly. Don't go expecting a quiet little dining experience: Barela's is always packs and loud... but it's worth... More

Barelas is definitely a local's hangout for Mexican food. The last time I visited, I left disappointed. My enchilada plate arrived as basically one big plate full of red chile and cheese with who knows what was underneath. I'm assuming there were corn tortillas, chicken, rice, and beans, but the presentation left much to be desired. The beans (once I... More

This is by far my favorite New Mexican in the Q. Had breakfast by myself as the Mrs. was out of town. Having lunch there again this week too! All my friends, family and business associates look forward to Barelas! Serve is snappy, chile is off-the-chain! Say hello to Gerry, the cashier! She always has a smile on her face... More

Great place for truly fresh homemade New Mexican food. The Huevos Rancheros deluxe is awesome. Fast friendly service at a great price

Good stuff! Wish they had sopapillas, but everything else makes up for that. Great chile (chile with an 'e' - gabachos) and waitresses that have been there forever.

If you want great, authentic Mexican food, go there! The food is as good as the service. We were seated very quickly (but it was 8:30 am on a Saturday. It got really busy after that and the line was long). The food tasted delicious. I asked our waitress (Dee, great lady!) what she would recommend: chicken enchiladas, with an... More

The food was good after a waiting for a bit to get seated. Our fault, the lunch time rush was at an all time high. The tortillas rocked and the chicharones and red chile kicked butt. Parking was terrible because we parked by a smelly blue dumpster where there were a couple of winos drinking 40s. Other than that safety... More
