I've been to Chez Axel for lunch twice in the last month: once by myself and once with my wife and daughter. Both times everything was excellent. Although they do have a few dinner-style entrées available at lunch, I always get the combo ($12.00), which is a choice of soup or salad plus a choice of quiche or crêpe. The... More

I went twice in one week...first time with a group. The people who got salads/soup/quiche/crepes were served quickly. Those who ordered entrees--the meal came out 45 minutes later! The Beef Bourguignon was fabulous--melt-in-your-mouth tender, delicious, and the sauce was soooo good! The second time I went, I had the Shrimp Provençal, and my friend had the Beef Bourguignon. The shrimp... More

I've been dining at Chez Axel since 2007. My wife and I had dinner there last night after an interval of several months. I should point out that although I enjoy fine dining and appreciate good food, I am not competent to judge whether cuisine is truly French. However, I can say that the veal Cordon Bleu and the pork... More

Dill Havarti as part of a cheese tray? Seriously? C'mon. Typical Albuquerque attempt at cosmopolitan fare. They tried to pass tough-as-shoe-leather PORK LOIN as "pork tenderloin." I don't think they even know the difference! No beer or wine...Seriously.

In a rather tired strip mall with old tires piled behind the fence just south of the door, but that should not keep you from a visit. Wonderful food once you make it inside. The lunch special is quite reasonable. I had the quiche and French onion soup--both piping hot and delicious. I'll be back for dinner.

My first thought upon entering was why was there only two tables occupied. It became clear when we found out they still do not have their liquor license after several months and the waiter seemed just as unhappy as we were over this event. My trout was quite good with sides of rice which was bland as was the asparagus.... More

Been coming to this intimate restaurant since the original Parisian owner opened it and named it after his son. It has changed hands a couple of times but not lost the spark with great French renditions at a couple friendly price. Several opportunities to save furhter with Entertainment Club coupons or age based or night based visits. I have had... More

We went for an early dinner with friends from out of town. Sorry we couldn't show them Albuquerque's culinary prowess. First disappointment was no liquor license. Apparently, the restaurant lost theirs in the renewal process, hopes to get it back ... but alas, we dined sans vin. Appetizers: pea soup was ok, very thick, not much coriander flavor. Salad had... Perhaps an evening in January, right after the New Year, isn't the best time to judge a restaurant. If you can imagine a situation where the cook and staff were tied up in a back room and a couple of impostors took the place over, that would come close to the impression we had. We were the only diners, and... More

Chef Axel has been a favorite for years. Our group of 6 went for dinner this evening and were not disappointed. Our only wish was for their license to sell wine be reinstated. We all ordered French Onion Soup - it was a cold dreary night with snow predicted, so the soup sounded good. And it was! I loved every... More
