Better than decent food. Super happy hour with 1/2 price oysters and wonderful shrimp. Mexican martini is very good. Live music makes an evening special. Has a big happy hour crowd. Good for drinks and/or dinnger.

This place has fantastic seafood, great service and a really nice atmosphere. The live music is good and not so loud that you can't hear to talk. The coconut shrimp were huge and delicious. This is the best seafood either of us have had in South Texas!

We ate here on a Wednesday and during happy hour (half price starters and drinks). Wife had sushi roll and said it was fantastic, I had wings (hot buffalo) and chicken sandwich. Wings were overcooked and not very spicy. Chicken sandwich made up for the disappointing wings. Still gave it a 5 for great price and live music along with... More

We went here for a late lunch. It was not busy, but it did take quite a while for our food to come out. Our server was great, checking on us and keeping our water glasses full. But the food was slow. That said, portions were enormous and the food was good. The gumbo was well executed, with tons of... More

We ate here based on recommendations based on people familiar with the area and TA reviews. We were vacationing in the area and wanted local seafood to eat. The restaurant is located in a local shopping area and was busy the afternoon we ate there. We were seated quickly. Our waitress was very personable, prompt and helpful with menu selections.... Great food! Friendly service. TVs w/ sports as appropriate. Coconut Shrimp was great! Grilled zuchini and asparagas as side choices - not the usual corn and brocholi, that was great. We will go back tomorrow night too!

We go here often and always order the same thing because it's so good! We get a platter of fried shrimp, one of fried oysters and one fried fish. All come with great tartar sauce as well as cocktail sauce. All the seafood is super fresh and fried perfectly. The restaurant is a bit noisy, but they play great music... More

Pretty good. Not our personal favorite but definitely a good one in the area. Just stopped for lunch but we're told it gets busy weekends and at night. Good beer and seafood.

Stay absolutely away from this restaurant. The food is terrible. I got sushi that was warm but I was so hungry and ate it anyway. I barfed for two days. My business associate got sick from his chili cheese burger as well. Don't be fooled!!!

Description
The number one question asked is “What does Scuttlebutt’s mean?” Well, we answer, The original context came from two nautical terms; the “butt” (picture a wooden keg) was a wooden cask that stored the fresh water when sailors were at sea. The “scuttle” was the area of the ship where the “butt” was stored. When it was break time, the sailors would gather at the “Scuttle Butt” and drink. This also became a social time, as they could all meet and talk. Now over the years the words joined together and became “scuttlebutt”. This word was used when people would gather together, typically at the office water fountain, and ask one another, “Hey, what’s the scuttlebutt with Jim in accounting?”

Here is the official definition according to Meriam Webster;

1a : a cask on shipboard to contain freshwater for a day's use

2b: a drinking fountain on a ship or at a naval or marine installation

2: rumor, gossip.

Now that you know what Scuttlebutt’s means, this is what we are about! Scuttlebutt’s is a full service restaurant and bar that truly is a place where everyone, from babies to baby-boomers, can get together and have a great time! Our menu is as equally diverse, with grilled peanut butter, banana and honey sandwiches, hand-cut rib eye steaks, oysters on the half shell and one of the best sushi bars around. Our premium craft beer wall and wine selection is top rated, and make sure to try our house made sangria or our signature Scuttlebutt’s punch. We are a scratch kitchen and our day starts in the wee-early mornings when the hard-working prep team arrives to bust out our house recipes. Another appeal to Scuttlebutt’s is that we offer Happy Hour every day (Yes, week-ends too!) from 3pm-7pm and we have live music every night (Yes, really, every night – unless the Dallas Cowboys are playing). We can easily accommodate larger groups as well as be the perfect spot for date night, which has turned into a marriage proposal on more than one occasion. Call ahead seating is available and we can help plan a perfect office party or celebration with custom menu options. Come visit us and become part of our Scuttle Family!
