My friend and I had the fried chicken which was excellent. The chicken was tender and seasoned to perfection. I had the mac and cheese and butternut squash puree. Both were delicious. The mac and cheese was made with spiral pasta. The restaurant has been in business for 90 years so they must be doing something right. Hannah was our server.... More

And VA-Highland is a mecca for good food, so that's saying something. APR&T has been around for many decades, but keeps up nicely with food and drink trends and always does it well. So now they're into locavore. Their vegetable plate is fine dining, unlike some mainstream restaurants' veg offerings. They have a good selection of artisanal beers and a... More

Go for the beer, not the food. Appetizers (fried green tomatoes and deviled eggs) not good choices, but bacon wrapped dates and tomato soup were good. Fried chicken strips were large and plentiful. Grilled cheese sandwich was a good value.

My wife and I and an out of town guest were so looking forward to eating dinner at this place. We planned an early Sunday dinner, checked the website to make sure they were open, drooled over the dinner menu, and followed directions on the website to book through opentable and locked in a 4:45 reservation. After that everything went... More

I had the Shrimp and Grits which was amazing and my friend had the Fried Chicken which was outstanding. Southern comfort food is usually heavier than I would like but we were basically licking the plates clean. In the Virginia Highlands area, which has many bars and restaurants. The service was rushed- I am not sure why they were in... More

We went into Atkins Park for a cocktail while waiting for Surin of Thailand to open for dinner. Our waiter was apathetic and when asked if the Whiskey Sour was made from a mix or from scratch, he didn't know. The person in my group who ordered the Whiskey Sour said it was the worst she had ever had and... More

Went here for late night drinks and also for lunch the next day. It was good service and a nice atmosphere. The salad had fresh ingredients. It is a little bit pricier of a lunch.

I have been going to this family friendly restaurant and tavern for many years - since age 8. Needless to say, since I am still going I think it is marvelous. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The food is well done and beautifully presented. The chef keeps up with the seasons as well as presenting new and current dishes.... More

Saw this old tavern and heard the fried chicken was good...I got their hand-battered chicken tenders, and they were fantastic. Good fries as well. The honey mustard and bbq sauce they serve with the chicken are both really good. My wife had the cobb salad, which had grilled chicken, and she said it was very good. This place has a... More

Atkins Park is a hip place to hang out, and your grandparents may have thought so too. A variety of food selection on the menu prepared with fresh ingredients made-from-scratch lures customers back for more great food.
