We were able to visit during our Richmond Rides tour and it was very nice. The bakery was very busy which is always a great sign. We tried the sugar bread which was sweet, soft and flaky. We will go again next time we're in Richmond.

This restaraunt was recently nominating for a Beard Award so I went to visit it in Churchill, Richmond VA. The smells were great. They have scrumptious looking croissants, quiche, bakery sweets, and local coffee. Great for a pastry and coffee breakfast ,a light lunch or snack, or a box of take-home goodies. There aren't many neighborhood bakery specialty shops around... More

Like Bread.??.Step back to old world bakery and see what you used to get in lower NYC years ago. Main problem is getting in a rut...i.e.. ..keep buying the "Classic" and not trying the others. Made the transcendental leap and recently went with the "rye" ...will probably stay in that rut for awhile. PS...don't forget to get a croissant...

I really wanted to try one of everything, but the large pain au chocolat won the day. They heated it before serving, which just made it perfect, melty, chocolate goodness! I thought I would only eat half...haha. I also snuck a bite of my husband's quiche, which was also really good. They also made good cappuccinos with Lamplighter coffee.

I tend to very picky when it comes to baked goods, as I bake a lot in my free time. Nevertheless, Sub Rosa's pastries and breads managed to impress me. I tried the pain au chocolat, the salami and cheese croissant, and the quiche. The pain au chocolat and the salami and cheese croissants were perfectly flaky and delicious. The... More

Great airy space, beautifully done. Moderate crowd midmorning on a weekday. Excellent selection of interesting breads fresh baked. Hungry for breakfast we opted for some crossaints (1 salami, 1 chocolate) and they killed. Rich, impossibly light, how a wisper of flakiness could hold the buttery potency is beyond me. Samples of a seeded rye were hearty yet soft. Excellent coffee... More

If I have extra time in day I like to stop in for a coffee and croissant. Coffee is very good especially in thick mugs. The croissant and breads are reminiscent of being in France. A great neighborhood bakery to relax and read over coffee and something

We enjoyed sampling the pastries and breads of the Sub Rosa Bakery. the flower is ground on site and then cooked to perfection in a large wood fired oven. Early visitors are rewarded with the greatest variety since the selections tend to sell quickly.

We wanted a quick breakfast and stopped for pastries to bring to bring to my son's house. They were very tasty but I thought a few pastries were a little burnt. The fillings were delicious - cheese and fig being a favorite. It is busy on the weekend and limited inside tables and few outside, tables were filled so be... More

We were directed from across the street to the best chocolate croissant in the whole town. Our fortune was great this day because they were great.
