They claim to be the first business to ever have a drive-up window, in Springfield I presume. Their signature is a maid-rite, which is a sandwich made from ground beef, not a patty, loose on a bun with special spices and you can add cheese, I try and eat there every time I am on that side of town around... Not only was the food awesome, the owner, Sam, was the best! We came in and right away he asked what we'd have. We said not sure. He told us what the specials were and asked if I knew what a horseshoe was and told my son he had to try a Maid-Rote since he could have a hot dog... More

This place is on the historical register. Pretty cool to think it was there in 1923. I loved the food. We had the sandwiches and fries. Of course we drank the homemade root beer and then finished off with a root beer float. The sandwiches aren't typical hamburgers but more like sloppy joes without the sauce. The workers are super... We just happened to be driving by. We have been doing Route 66 for a few months now. We are going back to fairly local places and exploring more thoroughly. We have never had a maid rite sandwich before. It is a loose meat sandwich with seasoning and you can put ketchup or mustard on it. The fries were homemade... More

When you walk in, you are greeted as a friend! The building has operated as a maid-rite restaurant since 1927 (ok, I may be wrong by a year or two). The lunch menu is limited to maid-rite sandwich (crumbled cooked seasoned hamburger), in one of various preparations, french fries but the best is the root beer! It is made on... More

I agree with others on the maid-rites, you only get a pitiful amount of meat on it, and for the price tag I can grab a huge double cheeseburger elsewhere... I have tried the sandwich and the horseshoe, both of which are smaller than your average portion and extremely overpriced. I can get either elsewhere for roughly 50% of the... More

Their claim to fame is that this was the first drive through restaurant in the country. It is an inexpensive place to have a bite in the downtown area. The burgers are most definitely prepared differently than anywhere else.

Basic diner, friendly staff, and WONDERFUL food. Rather than order indiviual Maid-Rites, my wife and I ordered the Horseshoe to share. My wife was skeptical, until she tasted the Horseshoe. We then attacked it like two lions going after a gazelle. She said she could have eaten the whole thing herself! The meat is seasoned so well and the fries... More

Not the tasty greased free loose meat recipe we have loved for years. The diner is ok. The owners are very nice, but the root beer that is home made is the best part of the visit.

The staff are friendly and service is quick. But the food seems low quality the meat had gristle in it the burger was small flat and rather tasteless the to be honest it wasn't any better than McDonald and it was more expensive too.
