This gem of a place has the absolute best muffaletta sandwich ever! I always get the same order 2 sandwiches, one to eat right then and there and one to take with me on the road! Can't wait for my next visit!

Wonderful Italian deli and grocery that just happens to make the best sandwiches in town. Room to sit and have a cold drink and sandwich in the middle of the day.

When visiting the French Market this not to be missed. Delicious cold sandwich with olive salad. One sandwich feeds four! Why couldn't we find this in Italy?

The original creators of the Muffaletta and it is the best in town. In my opinion, Central Grocery is an Italian grocery store first and place to eat second. You can easily spend a half hour browsing the shelves admiring all those wonderful Italian imported...More

Without failure we never come to New Orleans without getting there muffuletta. The bread is the best along with the olive mix . The only thing I would have them do different is I wish for double meat. There are plenty of items from Italy...More

When in NO, you simply must stop at Central Grocery Company for a muffalla. It is part of New Orleans! My friend and I made the mistake of ordering one for each of us. "Oh no", said the nice clerk and showed me the size...More

It had been 18 years since my wife and I had last visited NOLA, and we elected Central Grocery as our first lunch site during our recent week in town. As the saying goes, "Often imitated, but never duplicated" (or equaled in our eyes). The...More

The muffeletta was so delicious. The olive salad made the sandwich and the bread was sooooooo good. I even think the sesame seeds on the bread contributed to the overall taste.

For somewhere whose reputation is based on one product we had hoped to enjoy the only offering, but found the sandwich very greasy and seeping oil. Plentiful meats and cheeses only added to the fatty stodge. Servings were generous, a quarter sandwich was too much...More

A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living
lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty

The point of going to Central Grocery is to eat the original Muffeletta. There is a certain amount of history behind this sandwich. There are plenty of poorer substitutes out there but they are just that. I don't like olives... More

I agree with the above post. It would be better to call direct as this does not go directly to the Central Market. You also might try Googling olive oil brands, maybe that would jog your memory.

No, the muffelata is full of italian meats. You can get it just olive salad but then it's not a muffelata.
