Gautreau's is a little off the beaten path but totally worth the detour. We were blown away by the delicious food and especially taken with the wonderful neighborhood ambience. The owner introduced himself, sat down at our table and spent a good 15 minutes telling us all about the restaurant's history. Well worth a visit!!

We so enjoyed our dinner here and especially the young woman serving the wine who had a wry sense of humor and a welcoming manner. The food was lovely and the setting very elegant.

Almost hate to write a review of Gautreau's since it will surely send crowds to savor the wonderful food and ambience of this jewel. It's out of the way and hard to find, but it is worth the effort. A calm and pleasant place to dine on truly inspired cuisine. Our waiter, Benjamin, was an old school New Orleans waiter,... More

It's usually very sad for me to eat in great restaurants because I cannot eat salt, so generally I pay full price for a boring and tasteless meal. Not the case here🎊🎉! Our excellent waitress Sandra said she and the chef had discussed my situation in advance and had two excellent suggestions. I was delighted with my flavorful and delicious... More

I know,I know, the title of the review sounds to be a little too much, but during this past week we had dinner at Galatoire's, Arnauds, and lunch at Brennan's ( which was excellent by the way) but Gautreau's was spectacular in every way. We were warmly greeted by the owner Patrick Singley, he made us feel like he was actually happy... More

The lack of a sign outside of this restaurant in a very residential neighborhood is the first indication that this is a special place. My fellow reviewers have used the word "gem" as a one-word description, and I couldn't agree more. Our table wasn't quite ready when we arrived, and I asked about a bar. But lacking one, the host... Found this through Trip Advisor, and it is a wonderful French Restaurant tucked away in an uptown neighborhood--not even a sign out front. Fantastic menu, great cocktails and wonderful service. The crab risotto starter was amazing! Dining room was full on a Thursday night and everyone appeared to be NoLa residents--not a tourist spot. People were well dressed and clearly... More

Was introduced to this gem from some local friends who live in the area. Very cool spot, great food, service. Super special place that you would never find on your own.

The first thing to know about Gautreau's is that it is a house on a quiet residential street. Inside is a room full of tables. Our server was very attentive. The menu is New Orleans fare - gumbo, fish, beef. I had a good salad, nothing special. I enjoyed my trout but the vegetable and potato combination was too fussy... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighbourhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
