If you are going to splurge only once in NOLA, consider August. We visited again this year and were again thrilled with every aspect. I had the vegetarian tasting menu and was amazed by the flavors and textures. (I eat meat, and rarely even consider veg options.) The wine pairings were fantastic. The sommelier, a woman who can tell great... More

Went here for our a last night dinner and it did not disappoint. Easy to get to from the French Quarter. Courteous greeting at the door and the rest of the staff. They were extremely knowledgeable about the menus. We liked that even though it looked like a fine dining establishment a dress code was not imposed.

This is a classy, quiet nouvelle cuisine experience from beginning to end. The kind of meal you'd expect in New Orleans, with interesting combinations and high quality tastes.

Of all the restaurants in N.O., we chose August for my 40th Birthday celebration. After all the glowing reveiws and John Besh's reputation in this town, I was expecting perfection. My dining experience was good but like another reviewer said, "manage those expectations". Most of the food we had was very good. The fact they will let you order items... More

We loved our lunch at August! We celebrated our anniversary by having lunch at Restaurant August and it was absolutely amazing! Chris provided detailed descriptions of the dishes and was very friendly. We loved everything from start to finish about the meal and experience at this restaurant. I highly recommend it.

My husband and I made it out last dinner in NOLA. Our waiter was incredibly attentive and the accessory staff as well. All dishes we ordered were excellent but I would highly recommend the celery and strawberry salad and for dessert the chocolate dirt cake.

Description
The cuisine at August is contemporary French with a focus on local ingredients, inspired by Chef John Besh's classical training here and in Europe, and by the depth of his own Southern Louisiana roots. August is located in an historic 19th century French-Creole building in New Orleans' Central Business District. August was a semifinalist for the 2012 and 2013 James Beard Awards Outstanding Restaurant, and has been selected by Gayot as a top 40 Restaurant in the United States. The Times Picayune has named it as one of their top 10 Restaurants the last two years in a row.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
