The owner very lovely southern lady who makes everyone feel welcomed....the interior is a collection of paintings not for sale but are the owners personal collection...the food like the interior decoration is clever and delicious....I would highly recommend a visit to this restaurant..

While my dinner at Upperline definitely had its high moments, the overall experience was not as gratifying as expected. Now don't get me wrong, the setting was adorable and the service was good - the food is what fell short. After reading the menu, so many items sounded amazing so rather than picking one I went with the 7 course... More

Highly recommended and did not disappoint. The owner JoAnn Clevenger is the most engaging, hospitable little lady on earth. The food was magnificent, and one of the most authentic New Awlins restaurants in town. Take a cab, don't walk. A very memorable experience!!

Although it was a 20 minute Uber ride from our downtown riverfront hotel, the Upperline was an very pleasant and enjoyable experience. It has been a consistent James Beard semi-finalist and was a finalist in 2014. Our lovely and gracious hostess made us feel that we just came to Grandma's for dinner. The quaintly decorated old house gave us a... More

I live in a city where we are passionate about our dining experiences, and Upperline provides the best overall experience time and time again. It all starts with the lovely Joann Clevenger...I've been there several times now and she always remembers me and gives me the warmest hugs :) It is my go to suggestion for anyone coming to the... This restaurant is off the beaten path out in the Garden District and caters to a loyal crowd of locals. There was a little skepticism from the staff when we called to make a reservation and I had to give a credit card number to get one. Except for the tables, it almost feels like an art gallery inside, with... More

I loved the ambience of the place. It was romantically lit, but you could still see your date. The pictures on the wall were awesome and interesting to look at. I have forgotten the owners name, but she came to greet us and asked about where we were from and we had a whole conversation with her. She was very... More

I had dined at Upperline about 5 years ago and was anxious to return. I started with the turtle soup and it was great. I then had the roasted duck along with my friend and both of us agreed it was the best we ever had. One friend ordered the shrimp and grits and was not as excited as we... More

This was definitely a great dining experience. We chose for our 1st course gumbo which was simply incredible. For my 2nd course I had spiced shrimp and cornbread it is mouth watering. My wife had shrimp remoulade and described it as remarkable. We had creme brûlée that was specular. For our side there was delicious pecan sweet potatoes. The staff... More

Loved this restaurant! The food was sooo good, superb service and quietish so you could talk. Loved the fact that the owner (older, lovely lady) came around and spoke to everyone and was very gracious.

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighbourhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
