We enjoyed an early dinner at the Gumbo Shop this past weekend. It offered both nice outdoor seating or an option for indoor. I had the chicken gumbo and loved it - not too spicy. The waiter was attentive and the pecan pie was delicious. Definitely would recommend.

I typically don't rate places based on service, but our experience at the Gumbo Shop was worth mentioning. All of our food was wonderful! We had the Jambalaya and the trio with Jambalaya, red beans, and creole shrimp. We also had the praline sundae and brownie pie. All was wonderful. The rest of our experience was poor though. The server... More

So where better to go then a place that has Gumbo in its name! We went only for that and did not even know what Gumbo was. Our waiter, who was excellent, explained to us the different Gumbos and bases for the Gumbo so we knew exactly what we were getting. How could we miss out on such a good... More

We had a lunch in this restaurant in our last day in New Orleans which was recommended by one of our friends. The atmosphere inside was very warm. They have a featured wine list and we selected a Robert Mondavi merlot which we liked very much. We also had a cup of seafood gumbo and a their green salad which... More

Honestly, the food wasn't bad but eberything else about the experience was terrible. We waited over an hour for a table of two on a Tuesday. The hostess sat people who just showed up mibutes ago because she had a table for four even though we gladly would have sat with one of the couples behind us who had also... More

BrownStain, I'm sorry that y'all had to wait such a long time, but we have a certain flow of seating that we adhere to in order to keep things moving. I apologize for the disappointing service as well. We'll be certain to work on doing a better job when it's busy. Thanks for reaching out. Best, Gaylin McAllister, General Manager More

I ordered the chicken gumbo and it was absolutely delicious! We ate here on a recommendation from a tour guide and it was probably our favorite place we ate at while we were in New Orleans. My friend ordered a shrimp remoulade salad and raved about how great (and spicy) it was. My mother ordered barbecue shrimp pasta (which wasn't... More

We had to go back a second time before we took off for the airport. I realized I had never really had gumbo until I had this. The Chicken was the best. We will be back! There was a line but they move quickly. Friendly, fast service

We had a party of six out looking for a late night dinner. There was a small line to get in, but our wait was less than 15 minutes. Host and waiter were both great. We had a round of frozen daiquiris. Honeydew Mellon seemed to be the favorite. Gumbo was delicious. Make sure you try the corn! Prices were... More

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
