This is our second year running we have visited Halais. We ate here several times on our recent visit to the area and the food here is excellent. Its very casual and you may well find yourself sitting at the same table as some of the locals. They have got more used to seeing tourists in the last 12 months and have changed the way they do some things, so it's more likely you will get your own table. But if not, don't worry because everyone here is very friendly. The staff also understand the importance of tourists and most can help with the menu, which although in English doesn't have explanations for the dishes. Having said that you can't really go wrong. We love their curries, particularly their Chettinad chicken and their butter chicken. The breads too are wonderful and, apparently the mutton biryani is a local speciality, though we never tried this. The chicken lollipop is worth trying too. 4 huge drumsticks coated in spices and deep-fried. Bottled water is available if requested but they give rose water as standard which is boiled, so don't worry.

A lively vibe, good atmosphere, varied menu, ace food. We were happy to find this place for a taste of Arabic and Indian food in Kerala. The waiter we had was very funny and was very happy to show me all of the food options, he even took me into the kitchen to choose a fish for the BBQ.

I was apprehensive as a vegetarian as I entered the restaurant. But my wife and I enjoyed the Vegetable Biriyani served with superb dates pickles as a side. The seating arrangements are as per Covid 19 protocol. Even at the entrance we are checked for body temperature with an infrared thermometer by a person who seems to be the owner of the establishment. The small shop at the entrance which functions as a bakery too has a wide selection of goods, mostly imported. The lady in charge is so friendly that when I picked up some packed dry fruit candies, she pointed out that one of them is broken in a corner and I may please pick another one in its place.
It was also found that there were areas earmarked for prayers for Muslim visitors and even dedicated area for them to wash their feet before doing the namaz.
A very [pleasant place for a break in Alleppey.

We liked the restaurant so much, we ate here several times when we visited Alappuzha. The food is really tasty. It is both generous in portion size and reasonable in price. Service here is great as well - quick, friendly, attentive and responsive to feedback.
I recommend ordering the Thali sets (available for lunch only) and the tandoori chicken. Last but not least, the restaurant can get quite crowded as it is very popular. To get a table easily, come either for weekday lunches or before 7:30pm for dinner.

Family of 4 visited for an 8 pm dinner on a Thursday night. No wait for table. Excellent, informative, attentive and fun waiter. Ordered Mutton Biryani, Butter Chicken, 1/2 order Chicken al Fahma and Romali. Ansar, our waiter, suggested smaller portions as not to waste any food, great call! To say that all items were absolutely delicious would be an understatement. Possibly our best dinning experience in the last 33 days in India. Two milkshakes, a mint lime soda, and a coffee later, we got the bill. INR 1200....! From ordering to eating to paying the bill took less than an hour. Grabbed some sweets on our way out, bonus.

Ordered porotta and beef roast. But the beef roast was served with poor quality meat, no sufficient masala . VERY BAD. Experienced the same previously. Thought of improvement and revisited. Feel bad . Informed the concern person.
Please think twice before ordering beef roast . Not worth.

This place beats chicken biryani I have had in any part of India be it Hyderabadi, Awadhi, Kolkatta, Bombay or any other type of biryani. I and my wife had mutton and chicken biryani along with tasting their halwas Suji(Semilina), Kathal (Jackfruit) and Pineapple which were offered to us by their ever courteous owner Mr. Mohd Haneef and his wife who took equal pride in letting us taste their delicacies. Apart from their food, they are equally famous for their home made pickles specially date and lemon pickle. I have not met such polite, humble and courteous owners before. We didn’t get chance of having their Shawarma, Shiwai and al faham at that time as it is used to be prepared in the evening(although I had all of them before but got it delivered at our hotel). They made sure that we had our lunch properly as well as gifting my 3 year old lollipops and candies. Thanks a lot Mr. Haneef and family!!!! This place is a must visit for all the foodies....

We went to this restaurant for the first time in nov 2021. We ordered the Mandi and normal meals and the food was SO delicious. Loved the Mandi.the waiter was attentive and warm. You should definitely try their mandi and achar/pickled garlic. The owner and his wife started talking to us while we were buying the pickles and dried fruits, and they were incredibly warm and welcoming and it was a pleasure to talk to them. Such genuinely nice people, really made our visit to Halais restaurant special. Definitely drop by if you want great food and a welcoming, homely atmosphere!

We enjoyed the Tandoori chicken but the Honey chicken was coated with chili and was a bit hot for our Western tongue. Very kind service. Nice family restaurant. Suggest having your Tuk Tuk wait as it's not in a busy part of town and had difficulty finding transport back to hotel.

My girlfriend found this restaurant by looking through a “rough guide to India” at a hostel and it’s exactly the experience I was looking for!
Upon arriving you first have to walk through a shop full of sweets and interesting looking foods I don’t know the names of. The restaurant itself was nice and cool which was a great break from the heat. I ordered the chicken biryani which was amazing! We were helped by a super friendly guy which made our lunch here even better.

You enter the restaurant through a sweets and dried fruits shop, with friendly owners.
The food was extremely flavourful and tasty, with a range of South Indian, Yemeni and Persian dishes.
They are known for excellent biryanis, and that was true.
Some roasted meats and breads (naan eg) are only available in the evening.
A lovely eating experience. Recommended.

They treat their customers like what they ordered(the value of their food). Today I purchased some of the items from the front area and ordered the tea.In the restaurant, they took the order and waited around 30minutes.They are not interested to serve the tea without food.worst disappointed experience from halais. So I quit the place. At least ur management team or one should be there. Now u are thinking about the money!!!!.

Halais biriyani is famous in town. They have tradition in restaurant business. While we entering we can see a mini supermarket with wide variety of unique items. Almost all dishes are highly recommendable. But unfortunately last time i experienced little oily in chicken biriyani.

Very large sweet shop as you enter the restaurant. Had to drag my wife away. Although this restaurant could be classed as a fast food restaurant the food was very good. Exceptional value for money and worth a visit

Halais is the place to go if you're in Allepey. A dinner and another biryani lunch is a must. Every single thing we ordered was absolutely amazing. Even the Chicken 65 which is an otherwise popular but common dish around the country was outdone and absolutely delicious. The mutton biryani, chicken and other curries with parotta were light, tasty and absolutely mouth watering. The staff and management are extremely sweet and efficient with locals and tourists both.
