About
We welcome you to Glacier National Parks West Entrance as we have welcomed visitors for over sixty years. The restaurant and other West Glacier Mercantile buildings were constructed in 1938 at the junction of the Going to the Sun Road and US Highway 2. We are open mid May thru mid September, serving breakfast lunch and dinner. Our food is all home made, desserts are amazing and staff is exceptional. We are able to accommodate your group whatever the size. We are fully licensed so you may enjoy a cocktail with your meal and we do take out or sack lunches if you prefer to eat "on the fly". Stop in and check out our ice cream cones or huckleberry cream pie!

The location of this cafe was very convenient. That being said, the food is pricey and sides are ordered separately (french fries). The Montana BLT was delicious and very filling. The outside seating is very nice and helps you distance from other people. If you want to try something different, they have huckleberry ice cream and pie. Overall, filling food but pricey.

We went a couple of times, one for breakfast, and another for a late lunch. For the breakfast, we enjoyed a huckleberry parfait and it was great. I ordered some regular coffee and the carafe was empty and a worker was nice enough to take my cup across the café to fill it up for me.
When we went back for lunch a couple of days later, the experience wasn’t as good The three of us ordered some burgers and we were there around 3 PM, so there wasn’t anybody else in line or waiting for their order. Despite that, we had to wait around 15 minutes so not sure why it took so long and we were in a hurry. I had one of their specialty bison burgers and when I picked it up, the bottom bun fell apart after the first bite because of all of the sauces they put on it. Also since we were leaving the Glacier area, we had to get our last shot of huckleberry so my wife and I each ordered a slice of pie. We were shocked how small it was, as if you put them together, it would equal a slice at any regular restaurant. At $10 each, we definitely got ripped off but I guess we should have known better.
So if we ever go back to Glacier, we’ll stick to breakfast but will take a pass for lunch (and dinner).

Spicy Bison Burger is out of this world delicious! One burger is a half pound of messy deliciousness- big enough to split between 2 people, which is good because it was like $16. We are at this place 3 times in one week. Our kids said it’s the best burgers they’ve ever had. Hits the spot after a long hike.

West Glacier Cafe used to be one of my family’s favorite Glacier stops. Since Pursuit (Xanterra) took it over, the restaurant is awful. The food choice was very limited (1/4 burgers, chicken sandwiches/strips, and a couple basic salads), the garlic fries were practically inedible, the dining room felt like a fast food place, and the prices were way out of proportion to the amount/quality of food. The only redeeming factors were the efficiency of the staff (although they clearly needed more cooks), and the delicious ice cream. Don’t bother eating here unless all you want is ice cream.

Not coming back tomorrow! Ain't happening. We decided to backtrack within 45 minutes of closing to try out this local-looking place we saw while leaving Glacier National Park when the original restaurant had an absurd kids' menu that didn't appeal to anyone in our family. Tomorrow when we return to Glacier, we will select ANYWHERE else! It cost just shy of $100 for 3 kids and 2 adults. Got 2 sodas for the adults, 3 free waters for the kids, a $10 basket of fries to share since it doesn't come with any of the sandwiches, one kid got chicken tenders, 2 kids picked the cheeseburger, and our adult entrees were $17 (!) sandwiches. This place has the distinction of being the 2nd most expensive meal but nowhere even close to the best meal we have had the past 3 weeks on the road. It was good but not amazing. One of our $17 sandwiches was not made with the toppings requested to be removed. The chicken tender basket was missing a tender. So I was thinking maybe portions are huge. No, not really. Even the 5 year old finished his kids' cheeseburger. No one had any leftovers. Had a much better family meal within the gates of Mt. Ranier last week for $2 less (even after tip there since it was a sit-down rather than counter service that Freda's was). Go to the Mt. Ranier NP Inn/Restaurant instead for superior taste, service, and prices for both kids and adults.

Been going here for the last 40 years. The last couple of years it changed management, and they could care less for return business. They serve small portions and huge prices, they don't care if you return. Locals and tourists beware, they commercialized, and you pay 6 dollars for a hollow waffle cone and one little scoop. Pick your treats up in Kalispell, and skip the tourist trap.

I ordered the grilled chicken bahn mi and regretted every bite. Literally the worst sandwich ever. First off, who puts together a bahn mi on ciabatta? that should have been a red flag. The bread was awful. How can bread be dry, lifeless and soggy all at once? Maybe week old bread and sandwiches pre made the night before? I tried to remove half the bread to be able to finish it. I was hungry and had limited time, so I really needed to eat. Every bite was painful. Grilled chicken was simply false advertising. No grill marks. Nothing even browned. It was boiled. Boiled! It was Nasty, dry, chewy, and the texture thick and tasteless. The rest of the sandwich was a sloppy hot mess, but it was a cold sandwich which made the hot mess even worse. No one could ever be proud of serving such garbage. Very Sad as there are limited options nearby but please go anywhere else. Go next door and get cheese and crackers! Also The prices were appalling. $15 for a barely edible sandwich?

The burgers tasted like they were cooked the day before and warmed up only enough to melt the cheese before being served. Burger doesn’t include any side, fries or other sides are extra$.
Oh, the fries were barely room temperature too.
Horrible experience.
Stay away !!

This place is way overpriced. You pay $17 for a regular hamburger, $16 for an elk bratwurst, etc. And these don't come with sides. I wanted to walk right out but my family was hot and hungry and everywhere in West Glacier was crowded. The prices are higher than in the park where we paid far less for better food at places more cut-off from civilization. Save your money and eat in the park or down the road in Columbia falls or Kalispell.
Also the atmosphere is loud and lacking in anything that you'll want while being in a natural place like Glacier.

Basic menu, burgers and sandwiches served along with ice cream and pie. Be aware, this is a VERY expensive place to stop and eat at. A sandwich can cost $19 and it comes with no sides. Fries, that will be extra. Potato chips, that will be extra. My wife and I had each had a sandwich, she had a fountain drink, I had a malt, and my wife picked up a piece of pie and a cookie. The bill - $60!!! Adding in a tip and lunch for two was over $70.00. Be aware, a SINGLE piece of pie is $11.00. Yes, one piece, not the whole pie.

Our group of 7 stopped in here after 9 hour day of hiking. We had Huckleberry pie with ice cream and coffee. The kids had various flavors of ice cream and loved it. My parents both had the Huckleberry shakes and said they were amazing. Everything was super delicious! Stop here! You won’t regret it.

Your cashier ignoring me and continue talking to one of the staff personal talking . A three minutes later asking if anyone needs a help. This is rude. You need to teach your staff how is customer service should be.

We came in for a beer & a bite to eat. Sadly, a food delivery issue made the menu only limited to salads. The bartender, Zach, stepped right in with sincere and friendly service. He pointed us to the food truck across the way and allowed us to enjoy an ice cold draft with our lunch.
The bar entrance is a bit hidden, but it is on the left of the building. Offers a nice selection of local brews and a great resting spot before or after GNP. Thanks, Zach, for your excellent hospitality!

Well, as many of you know getting around in Glacier NP has become cumbersome. Freda’s is very over priced for food items. We ate at Many Glacier hotel, full meal, and it was cheaper then 2 people at Freda’s. But Freda’s can charge that if you have to eat. We stayed outside the park and wanted to eat before our travels. my advice is to pack more food then you think is necessary. But if you have to eat there, bring the money. Food itself was average fast food.

Decent burgers, breakfast. Great cappuccino! They open early, which is useful if you're doing morning activities. The bar next door offers a good assortment of beers and liquors. Perhaps the menu could have a bit more healthy options.
