This morning the first leg of my travel concluded before the time my alarm usually goes off. By the time I'd been up 14 hours, navigated 6 hours of air travel, got lost twice, and attended a wedding, I was ready for a spectacular meal and glass of wine. La Vara was a happy find in a neighbourhood I don't... More

I'm from NYC and yes, this is a must-try. The food is tasty and innovative, great staff, wine, environment, etc. We had an anniversary dinner there and it did not disappoint. They are small plates, we eat a lot and ordered a lot.

The location of this restaurant is nestled into the neighborhood and reservations are a must. It is shotgun style with a nice decor. However, it does feel a little more than just cozy. We opted to be seated outside. They have a back fenced in patio surrounding a pretty old tree; nice, except for the big black ants who attempt... More

We've been here a couple times in the past month, once on date night, once with our very well behaved toddler and in-laws. Both experiences were great. The food is superb, the service is charming and knowledgeable, the ambience is lovely. Don't miss the fried artichokes.

Everything about this place is perfect . From the ambiance, to the food and the delicious sangria. Some of our favorite dishes of the night were the: eggplant with cheese, paella and shrimp . Looking forward to coming back again !

We had a family event and everyone loved the food. We had to plan a fixed menu due to the size of the party and the staff were very helpful. The dishes were excellent. When there wasn't enough to eat we ordered more dishes and those came pretty quickly. Keep in mind it is VERY noisy and it was hard... More

La Vara claims to serve Spanish tapas with Moorish and Jewish influence. It also claims that this draws crowds to the stylish storefront restaurant. My daughter loves Spanish food and small plates. I was intrigued by the claim of Moorish and Jewish influence, so we made a reservation for dinner. We could not get a reservation before 9 pm. When... More

Wow, it was an explosion of exquisite taste and flavours during our visit to La Vara. We snared two walk in sets at the bar and began our journey. Over a bowl of spiced fried chickpeas we perused the menu sipping two of their craft beers on tap. *The room is modest with a small front patio. The bar can... More

This is our NYC Brooklyn friends local spot and I can see why. I strongly recommend you book to ensure you get a table. Many restaurants serve tapas but La Vara has managed to put a bit of a spin on everything so that nothing is boring. Our mates chose all the dishes and we shared everything, the artichokes are... I'm not surprised that La Vara is getting all the attentions lately with its bold and playful flavors. Its more of a Jewish and perhaps Moorish inspired tapas that sets this joint apart from others. By all mean, its a true gem! Split 5-6 plates between 2 and your all set. Be sure to have the cumin lamb and the... More
