This was the best place we dined in Fairbanks. The food was delicious! and Bill was very friendly, informative, helpful, and made us feel so welcome. Crab Sandwich and Pastrami Sandwich - both excellent! Great pictures and other things on the wall; walk around and explore!

We had lunch there and enjoyed the food. We both had the breaded cod basket which was excellent. The waiter there is a hoot - he helped make our visit there fun!

Like others, I think you have to go just for the experience...from the entertaining waiter Bill, to the very friendly owner, and even his very friendly young daughter! It was so interesting hearing about living in Alaska from people and their family who have really lived it! The building is filled with history about the owner's dad, once Alaska's governor,... Stopped in here the first day after spending 12 plus hours on the trip. Eclectic place, full of pictures, stories etc. The owner (who was in a few days later) is the son of a former AK governor and g'son of a gold rush miner - and brother in law to the GREAT John Stockton of the SLC Jazz. First... More

My family and I were shopping downtown Fairbanks and decided to stop and for a quick bite to eat. We decided to swing by Soapy Smith's - and we're totally glad we did. Mr. Bill took great care of us and really went the extra mile - everything from adding a scoop of ice cream to my son's "chocolate milk"... More

We ate lunch at Soapy's on a very cold afternoon. It was not crowded. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable and funny. We appreciated his suggestions on foods and drinks. In particular their special crab cake burger was excellent!

We visited this typical Alaskan restaurant on a grey evening. Our waiter instantly brightened our mood. Rushed off his feet and alone he coped with his very own style and humour. Food was delicious - crab cakes of course ! Well worth a visit .

From the time we entered the restaurant which we had waited for them to open we were entertained by our very efficient waiter. The food was average but worth the visit to see the decor.

The best thing about Soapy's is the server. He is hilarious, very personable, and entertaining. He knows the regulars and they love him. The food was not great. I had a hamburger and it was rubbery, not hand-pattied for sure. Husband had the famous crab burger. Also not very good.
