This is a cute place to meet for a quick bite, lite fare. They have a small porch out back which is great for good weather. There are only a handful of tables, so if going for lunch arrive early to beat the lunch rush.

A nice little place on the avenue in Hamden. Tight quarters, but food coffee and food and good atmosphere to hang out.

Visited today for the first time in 9 years. Daughter worked there 11 years ago and it has not changed since then. Great coffee, helpful staff and great atmosphere. A coffee house for locals and visitors.

The common Ground has several things that I particularly like; great coffee, a lot of contemporary, organic, light food; great baked goods; a very casual earthly feel with with a following of every age group.

Funky little coffee shop. Very good bagels (w/cream cheese and sandwich items), muffins and coffee. Small number of tables. Small line when we got there, seemed most people took food to go. Metered parking.

The coffee here is pretty good. I usually just get drip coffee and it is always very drinkable. The breakfast bagel sandwiches are also very good...the Nova bagel is amazing with tons of lox, capers, and red onions. The other sandwiches have been good as well. They also have a wide assortment scones and muffins (they even offer some gluten-free... More

On the day of my visit, the decaf Americano had some taste, and that is saying something and the espresso (regular strength Counter Culture Destroyer) had very good balance of brightness, slight bitterness and roast flavors.

Why do people wait in line in a crowded cafe, squinting to read the chalkboard menu? Well, hon, this is Hampden, and it's the place to be! Yes, it's a small operation in a converted townhouse, but there IS a room at the back and you can even go outside in nice weather. Lovely for listening in on the conversations... More

Good coffee, tempting assortment of interesting varieties of muffins, sandwiches, soups and quiche. The lemon tarragon chicken melt and blackberry granola muffin were wonderful. Many staff members to keep up with the Saturday morning crowd.

I popped in here today to take advantage of their inexpensive ice coffee. Definitely an independent coffee shop with a local feel. Nice sitting area in the front, grubby counter & food service area in the back. The cashier and "barista" was not too friendly but not rude either. She answered all of my questions but seemed to be engaged... More
