We arrived at 7 pm on a Wednesday evening. Salad bar was almost depleted of its limp-looking lettuce, and the service staff was mostly nowhere to be found. The only food highlight was the grilled trout, tasty and tender. Sides were gluey mashed potatoes and sauteed zucchini that someone had forgotten to stir in the pan, so half was scorched... More

This restaurant is located in the Indian Lodge at the Davis Mountains State Park, and is run by the park. The food and service are good and the prices are what one might expect in this type of resort-type location. The breakfast buffet was excellent, with the typical breakfast items (eggs, sausage, biscuits, gravy, potatoes, and pancakes). It also offers... More

I visited here in the Fall of 2014 and again Spring 2015, reviewing it both trips. The service is THE best. Food is great as well. Pricing is very reasonable. My only complaint is that they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, both days I was staying at the Indian Lodge and had to go into Fort Davis for dining.... More

I stayed at Indian Lodge for the night, so Black Bear was handy or I'd have had to drive back to Ft. Davis. Dinner of grilled catfish was acceptable but nothing special and overpriced for what it was. Salad bar was completely neglected by staff, who failed to replenish croutons or any other ingredients. They constantly walked right past the... More

We ate supper here one night and breakfast the next morning. We didn't know that they're closed on Tuesdays, which is the day we arrived, but I believe they are open Wed-Sun. They plan to close in July for renovations but will re-open in the fall. My husband had the liver and onions, due to me telling him what another... More

Catfish was just so so. Best sandwich was the CCC. In Fall 2015, the restaurant will be enlarged and the kitchen totally remodeled, so i look forward to visiting after it is completed.

We ate lunch here while in Fort Davis. The lunch menu is limited, but the food we had was excellent. We had grilled chicken Caesar salads. The Indian Lodge is a historic hotel built by the CCC. It it beautiful and worth the drive through the park to see it. The lunch menu also had sandwiches, burgers, chicken fried chicken... More

We enjoyed breakfast at the Black Bear. The breakfast buffet looked great, but we did not arrive in time to enjoy the buffet. We did enjoy the breakfast selections from the menu. The service was friendly, but slow. Small kitchen with the cook focused on quality of the food versus speed of service.

After a brief departure, the food at this Davis Mnt / Indian Lodge State Park is back to its awesome features: superb daily homemade soup, nice salad bar, wonderful CCC chicken sandwiches, and a Sunday Buffet to rival the best in the area. The staff are both friendly and inviting - attentive and helpful in their service. Prices are modest... More

For only having 3-4 employees each day (the same ones, I might add), this place was enjoyable. They go out of their way to make you comfortable and happy. The food was really good. If you like liver and onions, please try theirs. It was the best I've had. One day we were there, we they had a Mexican buffet,... More
