Best fish and chips I've ever eaten and I grew up on the coast of Washington eating all kinds of seafood. I'm not a fan of French fries but they were good. The fish was not all batter like they serve in restaurants with grease dripping down your arm on the first bite! I thought Dukes had the very best I'd eaten and far more expensive, but Bow Pickers is far better fish and chips! Can't wait to eat there again!

I was recommended this known food truck/ship by the department of commerce in astoria amd am so glad I went. They only serve fried albacore tuna and fries. I don't like tuna but sure like albacore now. You get 5 pieces and fries for $14 or you can get 3 and fries, which is half order, can't remember price but the fish and the batter is to die for. There was about 10 people in line, you can eat in your car or there are picnic tables near. Yiu can tell they have an established reputation. I highly recommend!

I have heard good things about Bowpicker over the years and my first visit was great. You can find Bowpicker in a bowpicker between the Heritage and Maritime museums. I was there shortly after opening and the line was not bad and it was the same when walking by a few hours later. It is cash only, so be prepared. There were 2 people running it and all interaction was with the man taking orders, cooking, and taking the money. He was very friendly. You can either order 5 or 3 piece and it came out near perfect. Very light and golden and not too deep fried. At times, you don't know you're having tuna. The fries are very good too. There are a few picnic tables across the street or you can be creative and find places nearby. Great as advertised.

Waited 40 min for albacore tuna fried crisp and French fries on an overcast day between meals (3pm). 😟It was very good and reasonably priced. My husband preferred the halibut fish and chips we got the night before at Rogue brewery in Astoria —-slightly smaller portion but similar price so don’t feel like you MUST stand in line to get some good fish and chips. Friendly service...expect about 1 minute per order (but some people have a family rep in line ordering 5 orders so the line length can be deceptive.

Delicious, reasonably priced and good portions. The batter in particular was a perfect golden brown and stuck nicely to the fish. We went in the middle of the weekday and it wasn't too busy, but I'd expect a wait if going during peak time as it's a small shop.

We wanted to eat the very best fish & chips so we decided to spend a weekend night in Astoria. Bowpickers is by far, the best fish & chips in all of Oregon. Expect a line of people there for the same reason you're there too.

Doing a search of fish & chips in Astoria OR, the Bowpicker came up number one. Some friends from the west coast confirmed this is the best fish & chips in Astoria, so we had to shop. Fortunately the line was short and moved quickly. This small ship only serves take out and ONLY serves fish & chips, no chowder, or shrimp or anything else. The fish was good but not great and the fries were very ordinary. Not worth raving about or going out of your way for.

May 14, 2021 – Best White Albacore Tuna in Clatsop County, I tried the place in Seaside and never went back. But Bowpicker Fish is +10 and I always order two full meals because I will eat one in one sitting. It's the bomb in delicious taste, you'll realize 'Oh my, I ate the whole thing!' They've been in business for 20+ years and they have the special touch that could turn into a business franchise all over USA. The female owner hidden behind the counter is a magical character from your favorite fiction book and you will never see her, you'll just hear her voice take your order. .LOL <smile>
Seriously, she is a magical woman and her special way of cooking will charm you and this magic brings people from other states, who are bringing their friends with them to eat her magical fish. I met a man from Seattle, who bought his son with him just to eat her magical fish.
^^^ If, you need some lottery ticket magic ask her to touch your ticket for a touch of her magic. You can only see her if, you use your camera to seek a photo like I did. (see my photo) you will never see her face overwise, you'll just hear a voice taking your order but I'm 100% certain you will sense she is a magical woman with a magical formula for cooking the best-tasting fish in USA.
FYI, it is cash only & FYI, waiting in line is worth it.

They make the best fish and chips ever. They use tuna instead of the usual white fish variety. If you're there in the summer you may have to wait in along line, but its' worth it and it will be fresh when you get it.

The Tuna Fish & Chips is the best I’ve ever tasted. We live in Long Beach, Wa & travel the 20mi to have lunch there quite often. The Tuna is fresh daily & the thick cut fries are delicious. There are plenty of local sit down restaurants that serve F&C’s & the Bowpicker is our favorite…

First of all, this isn't really a restaurant. It's an old boat up on a patch of grass where you stand in line out in the elements . There is no covered area to eat either. The cooking and order taking is from this boat. Great for a picnic because where the boat is located gives you great views of the water and local activities. I've eaten in my car too. There usually is a picnic table there but not always. The crew works when they want too so if you show up and no one is there, they've got things to do elsewhere! But it's worth it to keep trying. And people keep coming back! The fish is so fresh, the juice runs down your arm (Have napkins on hand). Not greasy. Flavorful. So flavorful you do the happy dance while eating. I'd prefer krinkle cut fries but they serve a thicker cut steak fry. Which actually is great but don't waste too much time on the them, the fish is the star here. They have different kinds of fish but I'm a cod girl. I hear the halibut is wicked good but I just love the cod. It can be pricey but it's worth it. Nothing is worse than paying an arm and leg for good fish just to get hosed. You'll get your money's worth here. I've never had a bad meal.
So, when you see people lined up before the boat waiting to put in their order, get up there quick before it's gone and yes, they do run out of fish at times! Bring your umbrella if need be and be prepared for the elements. Gravel parking lot so wheelchair accessible. Order in and take out whether it's in your car, your hotel room, or a picnic on the grounds. Every time I'm in town, I'm prepared to go to other eateries but if the Bowpicker is open, that's it every time. My first choice!
They serve other things too but my mind and money is on the cod. Every time!

In the time of COVID-19, it was nice to eat at a non-drive in place. We stood outside in line (6-feet apart) for about 20 minutes to get our fish & chips. I asked & was told their fish is always white albacore tuna. We had never had fried tuna before, but we all thought it was really good! I did think it was a bit oily, but overall good. The tarter sauce & fries were good too. The entire menu is fish, chips, and canned soda/bottled water. There are a couple of picnic tables across the street. They were full, so we stood outside our cars & ate. Street parking is free.

This place is popular. We came to get takeout around 4:30 pm on Wednesday 7/28 and there was still a line. They have a small menu - just fish. Got the 5 piece fish with fries for $13.
Food comes out really quickly so the line moves. They only accept cash. We enjoyed the fried tuna fish. It was tasty but not quite as good as Grizzly Tuna in Seaside.

It’s the kind of place you have to be told about or you’d never find it. They do two items: fish + chips. And they are excellent. Albacore Tuna is the fish which I think makes part of the difference. The unique breading is the other. Truly the best fish and chips on the Oregon coast

Was hoping for some fresh and bright fried fish at a cute local spot. The place is cute.and local.
The fish did not taste fresh or bright. Sigh. Wished for so much more as we wandered the town.
