Have been here a couple times. The atmosphere is always great and the beer good. The food is on the shabby side, I have never tried the same thing more than once because I have never had any food that I would recommend. I only come here because new comers to the city always want to try out one of... More

McGillin's was a spectacular stop on our night out in Philly. Touted as being the oldest continuously running bar in Philadelphia, it was quite an experience. Yes it was crowded and noisy but that's half of the fun. Our visit was just prior to Christmas so they had holiday drinks on the menu and festive decorations up. Would 100% go... More

Come here for the old timey saloon atmosphere, plentiful portions of home style food prepared with fresh ingridients, and the wide variety of booze and beer. This is one happy place. People come here to chill with friends, colleagues, and dates. My buddy and I met here for lunch and were not disappointed. This is not fine dining, yet you will... More

Went here for the first time on a Thursday evening around 8 pm and it was already very lively! The decor was awesome and fully decked out in classic Christmas decorations. There are two levels to the place and they were both very active and had good music. We ended up just ordering drinks at the bar and got their... More

I first stepped inside this old Ale House in the Autumn of 1979 as a young grad student at Penn. I was told by the friend who took me there that it was "the oldest continually operating Irish Pub in the city." I guess that's true. I don't really know. But it looked old back then and it hasn't changed... More

From what I read here, you either love or hate this place. If you don't like it, you're told by the management to visit during a less busy or less noisy time. Well I do have to say that no matter how busy or noisy, you should have more than 1 choice of screw top wine. You should have better... More

TravelAPlenty: Thank you for stopping by. Sorry you weren't satisfied with your visit. It sounds like maybe we just aren't your cup of tea. We do tend to get loud during busy times, as you know, and we are an ale house - with 30 craft brews on tap. We understand that we're not for everyone but we appreciate your... More

We stopped here for an early lunch because it is decorated for Christmas and we were in the Christmas spirit. We got a great table near the fireplace, the beer selection was very good, prices fair. I should have ordered the simple liverwurst & onion sandwich, but opted for the mac & cheese with a crabcake extra. The mac &... More

We went to McGillin's for dinner before a show at the Kimmel Center (8 min walk). The place is very quaint and the Christmas decorations give the little ale house a festive appearance for this time of year. However, overall we were not as impressed as we'd hoped with this 1860 historic treasure. First off, sit downstairs. Definitely a nicer... More

We had lunch here and it was super crowded and loud. The Eagles game was on, which added to the crowd noise. Having said that, this place is wonderful. It was all decorated for the holidays and very festive. Despite the crowds our service was very attentive. The food and beverages are great. We love this place.

I’ve just spent a weekend in Philadelphia with friends celebrating a birthday and went to McGillan’s a couple of times. The place has a great atmosphere (really Christmassy too at the moment) and has a buzz about it no matter what time you pitch up. This is certainly no themed bar and has a real history about it, as well... More
