First time visitor to the city and had read that "water ice" is a must try. I think we picked a winner with John's! I would not have gone to a Rita's since those are even franchised in TN. We had a super mediocre cheesesteak at Pat's (avoid, avoid, avoid as the tourist trap it is!) and I convinced the... More

I was there this week with my Dad and I came there EVERY DAY while I was there. They remembered me by the 3rd day but they're all very nice and even helped me out when they were out of the Pina Colada flavor. Informed me of their next shipment and saved some for me. I really appreciated it since... More

Been coming here for over 6 years and is always consistent. Cherry, Pineapple, Lemon and Chocolate are their usual every day flavors. The best is when they have special limited time flavors especially during the summer months. Best one is Blueberry Water Ice which is available in July! Cantaloupe is also another favorite! They are home made and definitely an... More

When I go to Philly I always visit John's Water ice. I remember this as a kid and always loved it. It is take out only. I like the chocolate, cherry and lemon best. There are pieces of lemon in the lemon flavor ice. Do not visit Philly in summer without going to John's.

John's on 7th and Christian. Best water ice I've ever had. They've been doing it since 1945. I've been going since the '50s. Just as good now as it was then.

Water Ice is Philly's version of Italian Ice, and John's is a classic version and probably the most well-known by locals. Just a few flavors, all homemade. Cherry, Pineapple and lemon are the classics. Every philly visitor should stop by for one.

Established in 1945... John Cardullo, the original John of John's, came from Sicily 80-90 years ago. He stared a business that was a lot of businesses. The ice business year round, the oil business in winter and in the summer the water ice business. He put up a stand by the steps of his oil company, now John Cardullo & Sons. Making all natural water ice with his bare hands was one more way to make a living to John Cardullo. In 1953, Cardullo himself built what has become a landmark in South Philadelphia, the first building in all of Philadelphia built for water ice. Just as John Cardullo hand cranked his water ice over 65 years ago; Anthony Cardullo, 3rd generation Owner of uses only fresh fruit he personally selects and squeezes by hand, filtered water and sugar. No preservatives, no additives. Secret recipe sets John's apart. The Family Business - love, dedication, passion & pride.Since 1945
