A great Indian meal

My wife and I visited this restaurant and enjoyed a great Indian meal. Situated in a busy strip mall, the restaurant was fairly busy however we were seated and served very quickly. Our server Abby was exceptionally good, being friendly and providing us with some background on the dishes and recommendations when asked. The menu is fairly extensive. After ordering we enjoyed a drink while waiting, a nice atmosphere. The meal came and it was delicious and certainly more than we could eat, ended up with some take home for lunch next day. Reasonable priced and a nice touch was that the owner was in the restaurant and came to our table to ensure that we had an enjoyable experience. Nice touch, we will be back.

I have never liked Indian food at any restaurant I have ever tried - today no longer true!

My husband loves Indian food but I always balk at joining him. Tonight, I joined him at Tandoor and I loved everything. I had the garlic naan bread first and even though I almost never eat bread, I tried one and had to try a second one. I ordered the Chicken Tikka and the portion was so large, I could only eat half. I loved it so much, I took the other half home for lunch tomorrow (I took the butter sauce home also.) The wait staff was friendly, knowledgeable and provided excellent service. I think the lovely lady, who came to our table to chat with us and ask us how we were enjoying our meal, was an owner or manager. She could not have been more gracious and welcoming. The entire experience was so enjoyable, I won’t have qualms about joining my husband for Indian food in the future, as long as he takes me back to Tandoor. Could not order the ice cream because I’m allergic to mango (ice cream no. 1) and allergic to cashews (ice cream no. 2). That did not matter at all after such a wonderful experience.

Fine Indian Cuisine Indeed!

I admit I have a love affair with Indian food, so my friend and I chose to eat here as a no brainer when we were running errands in the UTC area anyways. And what a great choice we made! The food was just delightful- I don’t even remember the name of what I got sadly, but it was a creamy spinach chicken dish that was phenomenal and completely passed my expectations! And their rice was cooked PERFECTLY- I mean, I love rice and I have never had rice this wonderful and well done, it was not too sticky but still so soft and moist and wow what the heck. Our waiter Andre was so nice as well and really great at explaining and recommending dishes, though he wasn’t always the most attentive at times he still definitely deserves some recognition. I’m really just overall highly impressed with this place and will 10/10 be back!

Terrible Service. Absolutely ridiculous

Before I go about the review of this establishment, I'd like to mention that I have eaten here numerous times whenever I visit the Sarasota/UTC area. The first few times in 2017-2018, each time the service was always great. The food is good too and genuinely spicy. My low review is due to their extremely poor service, specifically one of their waitresses named Kellie. We came here twice during the Thanksgiving period in 2019 about 2 days apart and both nights we were served by Kellie. The first time, we didn't think much of it but left with a terrible after taste since we were baffled at how drastically service had changed here. Throughout the night, we could barely get a hold of her. We made several requests to have our water replenished but each time, she either forgot or was clearly too busy to care. We had to hunt down the manager to request additional rice for the two dishes we were served since only one rice dish was brought out. It was then the manager/owner, a young Indian gentleman mentioned to us that rice was unlimited although we were under the impression that each dish came with a platter of rice. When it came time to for us to pay, Kellie was no where in sight. We had to hunt down another waitress who also clearly had terrible attitude. She scoffed and said, "UghHH, that's not my table, proceeded to grab our bill and walked towards the register and exchanged some words with Kellie. Two nights later, we returned for dinner and to our dismay we were served by Kellie once again. Again when our two dishes were brought out, she brought one rice dish out again. Obviously it disappeared in a second, in between much waiting for her to come back around -- we asked that it be replenished. This disappeared rather quickly as well since we were having some spicy food this time around. When we asked for another replenish on the platter, she was quick to add that we had maxed out on our rice dish quota and there'd be an additional charge. Normally, it wouldn't be an issue but since we were already used to her crappy service, irritated and provided a different explanation by the owner two nights ago, we decided to correct her. She became very defensive, visibly irritated and agitated, and replied, "NO! I don't know why he would say that because it's wrong! I will go and clarify this with our manager." She then comes back with another plate or rice and says "The manager said that we would not charge you this time around but our policy is one rice dish per serving." So, when we asked her why she only kept bringing out one rice dish when we clearly ordered two entrees, her response was baffling. She said, "Oh I only bring one out in the event that it doesn't get eaten, we wouldn't be wasting the rice. But we're always happy to bring the rest out". Hopefully, management here is aware of their servers' attitudes here. I will not be coming back. No thank you. Someone like Kellie and the other grumpy waitress deserve to be on a TV show called the Mean Girls of the Gulf Coast.

Extremely slow

Most restaurants in the State of Florida are begging for people to come in and order their food for takeout or pick up. So I thought I would stop by this location and pick up my food. I ordered it online. They said about 20 to 30 minutes. I arrived. And it was an over an hour wait. if you're begging for people to buy your food and help support you then I would hope that you would have faster service so that way you could serve more people and make more people happy eating your food. I will never try here again.

Excellent lunch option when in the area!

This is a great restaurant. They have a diverse menu and do an exceptional job at spicy curries and specialty dishes. The butter chicken and the lamb curry were both delicious. The garlic naan is excellent. This is a great lunch option when shopping in the area. We found the pricing quite reasonable and the manager was very friendly and helpful.

Unrushed late night meal

My husband and I had flown flown from Los Angeles to Tampa, stopped for a short visit with relatives before driving to Lakewood Ranch and checking into our hotel. We had dined at Tandoor Indian Restaurant on a previous visit and were craving a light meal before unpacking. Although the restaurant was open for one-half hour more, we were treated well, not rushed, and the meal was, as expected, delicious. We were conscious of time, and did not linger afterward.

Exceptional lunch with superb service from Justim

Ended up here as a fluke after driving 72 mi to nearby restaurant to find they didn’t offer the Greek dishes we wanted on Sat. & Sun. Glad we came here. Will be back for sure. The wife had a house salad & Seekh Kabab’s (minced lamb). I had the Moglai Chicken Korma. We shared a Gulab Jamun dessert. Exceptionally flavorful. Came with a hard bread and 3 types of sauces. $54.00 with a 24% tip for Justim - a caring waiter who even offered more rice for my Korma. We opted for mild. If you like tasty Indian food, try Tandoor. You’ll be glad you did

Disgusting mushy bowl of salt

I'd heard good things about the place, but my dish was spectacularly poor. I had Saag with chicken. It is traditionally spicy, but the waiter asked if that's how I'd like it, which seemed good service. However, it tasted nothing like the Panjaabi Saag they claimed. It was just SALT, so was DISGUSTING!! It didn't even taste like Saag (mustard greens). Also, it wasn't hot at all, so yet more disappointing. Other people's dishes were fine, but my meal was AWFUL. Plus, the waiter didn't check on how my meal was ever, so I wasn't very happy with the experience at all. I would NOT recommend at all.

Dear Customer, Thank you for writing this review. We really do wish you would’ve mentioned your unhappiness with the Lamb Saag while dining with us. This gives us the opportunity to do better for you on the spot and give you a more enjoyable meal. The manager and server had come to your table to check on you but we found out about your discontent after reading the comments on the receipt saying the lamb was salty. Being human, we do sometimes make mistakes but always appreciate the chance to better. Disappointing Experience This Time Around

We come to Sarasota to check on family every few months and have frequented this fine Indian restaurant several times before, but this time it was quite disappointing. First, the menu had changed and it is now written in a color and font that is hard to read in the dim atmospheric lighting. My brother ordered the Tandoor Sampler as he had before, but this time he wondered why it was not "sizzling". It turns out the sizzling one is now "mixed grill" sampler. However, that wasn't the real issue. The chicken in this sampler was mostly cartilage. We both told the waiter and the owner and while the waiter first offered something else, the owner did nothing but say she'll "tell the chef". On top of that, we couldn't order our favorite ice cream desserts because the freezer had broken down and was now only "refreezing". Say what?! At least the waiter was honest enough to caution us. We left disappointed and sorry to say, we won't be back. The place seems to have taken a dip in quality since moving a few doors down from its original location. Mediocre at best!

Exceptional Service and Food!

Our server, Justin was spectacular, he could serve royalty! Highly experienced, polite, professional, attentive, patient, and knowledgeable. He made our evening truly enjoyable. We had picky eaters, a toddler, all sorts of inquiries, and yet he handled everything so effortlessly on a Saturday evening holiday weekend! The food and beverages were brought at the perfect time. He had it down to a science. The food was delicious and fresh! Chef Swaran is definitely talented and passionate about cooking nutritious authentic Indian food, and will gladly accommodate his guests. I have tried Indian food in numerous major US cities and Europe — and have to say Tandoor truly stands out.

We have been here many times. Sometimes just us, other times with family visiting and with friends. Never disappoints. We have tried other Indian places locally but always feel they never measure up to Tandoor. The ownership is always on duty and checking on customers.

We love Tandoor so much! EVERY dish is cooked to order with love, and the family recipes that have been passed down through generations can be experienced in every bite. We are so happy to be able to venture out again and visit this wonderful hard working family and are thankful that they have been able to make it through these trying times! Their food is outstanding! Anyone that has the audacity to leave negative reviews for hard-working families in our local community restaurants during this time- shame on you! please recognize that nothing is normal, everyone is doing their best to come back from this global pandemic, and if you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem. Be patient and please be understanding if your food Takes a little longer than expected. AND, say thank you!

We were in town for my son’s lacrosse tournament and decided to walk from the hotel to the shopping center to pick up food. He wanted a burger from Five Guys, but I wanted something non-fast food. I ordered carry out Chicken Tikka Masala and Naan. When I arrived, it was crowded. The restaurant was packed and there were people waiting both inside and out. Clearly, it’s a popular place. My carryout order was ready and given to me promptly. I ate at my hotel and the food was delicious and plentiful (It would have been enough for two people). My only qualm was that they did not include any utensils or napkins, so I had to get some from my hotel. Where we live, carryout generally is packed with plates, napkins, and utensils. I tipped on the order, assuming someone had put effort into packing it up. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have tipped as much. The food was worth it though. I highly recommend.

Traditional, hot Curry Indian. Just walking in and smelling the spices, gets you hungry. Mid week, no wait. Right next to Joanne Fabrics, so parking is no problem. Lots of choices in this little area, but , by far, this place is the better of them. Waiter, Bryce, didn't look ethnic Indian, but he helped us with Menu choices and was right on. Owner or Manager came by our table also and help with selections also, especially with our concern of food being too Hot. We had Traditional Curry dish with Lamb medium to hot and Navratan Shahi Korma ,vegetable medium. Both served with white rice. Fabulous! Served quickly, hot and tasty, especially the Lamb was tendered and spicy. Waiter kept our drinks filled and attentive. New place to come back for us, for sure. Staff was friendly. Well lit and Baths were clean. Prices normal for area.
