Having been to the Midtown restaurant many times we were looking forward to the downtown venue. Although a fantastic setting, the food was a little unsatisfactory. My husband was drinking softdrinks and the volume in the glass was pretty low making them an expensive alternative to wine or beer. Staff were attentive but the specials were not as expected when... Nice indkan restaurant in TriBeCa, with interesting menu that invites you to do a lot of experimentation and sharing with friends - but even though food is very good and staff is attentive, it looks like anything but an Indian restaurant. Big, wide white rooms with fancy lightning, there could be a little more ambience to make it look less... More

Different atmosphere from the usual Indian restaurant which I tend to think of as small with dark furnishings. This place is very spacious and light. Has an interesting assortment of cow bells (not really bells - more like knockers) decorating the rear wall. Went with 2 friends and shared the dishes on the special lunch menu. Very nice assortment --... More

Took an Indian-food loving colleague making their first ever visit to NYC to Tamarind this week. I had wanted to go there since reading a review a few months ago. The decor is unobtrusive, the welcome and service are good, the tables are close together, the sound level is high. So far, so normal. But the food? Cannot remember when... More

A nice dining experience can be had here. The menu is interesting and delicious. I have dined here 4 times and food and service is always consistent. Contemporary Indian fare. I have lived in NYC and this is one of my favorites for Indian cuisine.

Indian food outside of India seems to be a very different affair than what it is like in its hometown, apparently it is the same difference with US style French and French itself. Be prepared to have combinations that are not obvious and perhaps a bit too strong for your tastes. I enjoy the british version of Indian and I... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
