About
This midtown all-season rooftop bar on the 22nd floor of Archer Hotel New York — with the Empire State Building as its central focal point — boasts a quintessential New York experience with craft cocktails and savory, shareable bites. Enamored with nightlife of another era, Spyglass is inspired by “Rear Window” and the curiosity of its lead, Jimmy Stewart. Patrons are voyeurs to the city below, while the terrace’s classic viewfinder aesthetically draws cues from the film’s elegance and style.Spyglass’ multiple spaces and seasonal outdoor terraces make it an intimate and timeless venue for private events or an evening with friends, glimpsing the action on the streets below.

Nice bar with inside and outside seating. You need to book and hotel guests are given priority over non residential visitors - but you still have to book. As with most places, you pay for the view. It's very pricey (at least we thought so at over $200 for 3 of us, 2 drinks each and a few small plates of food.
Still, worth a visit though and is very popular.

We dropped in for an after-dinner drink and picked it because it was listed as a rooftop bar. It does offer a rooftop and it has a great view of the Empire State Building but in order to see the building easily, you either need to be outside or you need a table at the window which will almost definitely require a reservation prior to you arriving. The cocktails are excellent and the service at the bar was great. We felt like the bar was a combination of old-world and modern cocktail bars. Cocktails are pricey but you're in a hotel with a great view, rooftop bar, and excellent cocktails.

I decided to organize a get together for my birthday in June and am so glad I chose this destination. We had a small group of 7 of us but the venue couldn't have been more perfect. The views were fantastic, but so was the food and drinks. The Poke was really good and the beyond meat sliders were good also. Our server, Asia was so friendly and fun that we never hestitated to ask for her help or recommendation. My team liked it so much that they plan to come back again with our corporate guests.

I was traveling with my daughter (18) and went at 4pm to Spyglass rooftop so we could eat a snack and drink something.
We patiently waited downstairs as we didn’t have a reservation and finally after 30mins, the hostess took us upstairs and on our way asked for our IDs and after seeing that my daughter was 18, said she could not stay. Spoke with supervisor and said the same thing. I understand you have rules, but shouldn’t you have a sign that says 21 and up? Or actually asked for the ID while we were waiting second in line? Beside it was 4pm! Come on! Awful experience.

The rooftop is very nice with a view of the Empire State Building. The food is good however we had to wait about 1 hour just to get our drinks and the waiter got the order wrong. We paid 18$ for a sparkling water with some sirup which was too much for a non alcoholic drink.

Despite making a reservation 2 weeks ago ( the earliest you can book ahead on line) reserving with a credit card and sending two e mails to confirm my reservation before we arrived as we were travelling from the UK to celebrate a very special wedding anniversary, we arrived to be informed we were unable to be in the bar overlooking the Empire State Building that we had booked due to the closing of the bar for a private party. We were instead seated in a small back room that appeared to be somewhere they stored extra chairs with no view sat on our own. The staff were busy moving chairs loudly to the front from around us clearly to move through to the bar for the party. It was awful. Despite the offer of a free drink and a waitress trying her best, we were beyond disappointed.
What further infuriated me as we left was the fact I saw there was a small separate area at the front with the Empire State Building view that could have been used for paying guests that was completely empty other than a few bags and a couple of coats from the private party that could have easily been placed in the large main bar area allowing us the experience we had booked and reserved.
Very disappointed to fly over 3,000 miles to celebrate a very special day that I had booked and reserved to receive such a terrible experience. Clearly the bar cares more about large corporate bookings than honouring pre made reservations.

Booked a high view table for a 30th birthday celebration and upon arrival the manager (Aldo) told us that we could not have our table as the whole area had been booked for a private function. He blamed open table but he gave no apology and then took us to a back area with a view of a wall!
We had no time to book anywhere else and with the celebration ruined - he just disappeared and left us with the wall or nothing.
He must have seen our reservation early enough to contact us to give us more notice and quite frankly his attitude was appalling.
Itv would have been zero stars but for Mario. He saved the day with better service for drinks and bringing out a dessert for the birthday girl.
Beware if you book this place for a special occasion. Your booking is NOT guaranteed.
When we left we could see not many of the private function had even turned up.
Will not return or recommend

We booked this for later in the night but after walking all day we arrived 4 hours early just to check if they could seat us. They were so pleasant and easy about it which straight off was a huge bonus! Staff were very welcoming and friendly and honoured our early arrival. We had light bites and a few drinks as you only have the table for 1hr 30. That is enough though to have a romantic drink and see the empire state building from higher up. Definitely a nice roof top bar to check out and dress code is smart casual. As said there were no issues and this suited us as we were casual from walking around the city all day. Thank you to all the team

I reached out to the Archer to book a table at Spyglass for the night of our arrival in NYC for my wife's birthday. The experience was handled by Yariv - who did so with impeccable professionalism and a sweet personal touch. As our flight and arrival was delayed, my wife's best friend who lives in NYC was treated with wonderful hospitality as she waited for us at Spyglass. Yariv and the Spyglass staff made my wife's birthday very special.

Not been to NYC for a few years so thought I would book ahead rather than just rock up as normal. Read some great reviews for Spyglass and indeed it's a lovely little bar. However when the bill came, I was informed they hadn't charged me for some drinks. This being unusual, I checked the bill and indeed they hadn't charged for a cocktail that my wife had. (No idea why they would do this) However, they had charged for 1 drink we hadn't had. When I questioned the bill the barman was insistent I had had the drink. I had four cocktails, my wife had two, we both had food so we were pretty comfortable with knowing what we had to drink. The barman then proceeded to tell me I had had too much to drink before handing me a $20 back. A really nice experience ruined by a dodgy barman.

The bar, food and drinks were fine. The view of the empire state building was also very good.
The staff were not however. The bar manager (I think) was grumpy and made me feel like he was doing me a favour talking to me.
When we wanted another drink i had to keep looking for service but the bar staff were at the end of the bar chatting and not serving.
So overall a great location ruined by surly staff.

Spyglass rooftop bar is one of several on 38th street. It is on the smaller side, but if you don’t like the noise and hustle bustle of a typical theatre district bar you will welcome the atmosphere. Very Chic decor and friendly wait staff Plus an amazing view of Empire State Building. Definitely go !!

Rooftop bar on the top of the Archer Hotel in Midtown Manhattan with both indoor and outdoor seating. When I learned that our hotel had a rooftop bar, I assumed that it would be nothing special. However, the Spyglass offers one of the best views in town of the Empire State Building. It impressively rises up right in front of you with an unobstructed view. Grab a seat along the windows inside or even better out on the patio if the weather is nice. We stopped by for a late afternoon predinner drink but came back on another evening for a late-night drink. Cocktails and wine were excellent and about the expected prices you would pay at any upscale bar or lounge in Manhattan.

After a long day of walking through the Met, we decided that if you're going to sit down, you might as well do it on a rooftop bar. We tracked down Spyglass on Instagram and we weren't disappointed. Spyglass delivers to you a fresh view on the Empire State Building, a nice espresso martini to take it all in, and a smile from the waiters to top it off.

Lovely bar that has excellent views of the Empire State building. Good service and very clean. Staff were friendly and as a guest of the Archer Hotel, you can visit earlier than the open door to the public. If you are not staying at the hotel, please make a reservation to visit this bar.
