I ate here for the third time during a recent stay in NY, and I was super pleased with our meal. The filet was super tender and cooked perfectly. We ordered the pineapple fried rice and the crab fried rice at our table, and we loved them both. We had the spring roll appetizer, and they were delicious!! The cocktails were also amazing. This is definitely a favorite while in the city! This was a girl's trip with three adults and our three 7 year old daughters, and the kids also loved it!

2020… all is down and out in mid-pandemic New York City !! 2021… as we recover from the killer infection and things started to loosen up, it is time to stretch and spread your wings… with caution ~ and get a little relief from having been cooped up for most of the last year. New York City is an altered landscape: restaurants, which were amongst the hardest hit businesses, have been allowed to set up “outdoor” seating enclosures on the street and on sidewalks to allow business to continue with some isolation and social distancing to keep customers and wait staff safe from the scourge. And the creativity some have shown in making this happen is impressive ~ though unwary customers can run the risk of being mowed down by a wayward bicyclist while emerging from these enclosures !! Buddakan, in lower West-side Manhattan, is no exception… the beautiful and plush interior of this establishment lies fallow, while everyone is seated in these roadside structures ~ albeit somewhat more comfortably here, with ducted heating from the inside to mitigate the winter freeze, wood benches, traditional artworks, faux leather padded seat cushions and screens to cut the blast of arctic that screams through the canyons of NYC. In better times, we had long wanted to try this place, but finally got there under these circumstances... but hopefully, the next time we go, the interior will be open again. This was a birthday celebration for my wife… pandemic or not, birthdays come to roost ~ and demand compliance. No less ! So, starting off the evening with an exquisite bottle of Averaen Pinot Noir, we mulled over the extensive list of goodies on the menu …and salivated. For starters: Spring Rolls and Pork Buns.. both excellent: crunchy and delicately spiced rolls and soft and dreamy buns, with charred pork-belly, shallots and cabbage. Seconds: Dungeness Crab Rice, Minced Pork Lo Mein and Sizzling Beef Short Ribs.. superb. The crab rice is well loaded with crabmeat and spicy without being fiery, and the ribs come in a huge lump of extremely aromatic meat, covered with diced / grated mushroom chow fun and Asian pear, and prepared to be just melting right off the bone. Just fabulous. Dessert: Chocolate Cremoso and Mochi Doughnut.. very, very delightful. (though I don’t really care much for doughnuts of any form or shape.) And finally, to top things off… the management did a special birthday dessert for my wife, with a candle and a chocolate icing inscription… truly beautifully done and delightful. Thank you. It was really good of you. At $218 including wine for the three of us (my son came along) this was a great experience. The service was welcoming, friendly and courteous... of course, everyone was observing the “distancing” requirements and trying to ensure every guest has a great experience and comes back again. We certainly will.

We were in Buddakan in New York for the second time and it was as good as it used to be 3 years ago Located on 9th avenue and 75street, it is definitely the place to be with an Asian fusion food. Reservation is mandatory The location is a bit weird but trust me the place is really amazing with high ceilings and beautiful chairs and atmosphere. Service is perfect and it quite quiet for New York We have started the diner with cauliflower truffle lollipops Crispy Cauliflower Lollipops $18 truffle, sweet rice, cheese We’ve ordered then Charred Filet of Beef $46 wonton crisps, mustard sauce So tender and so tasty definitely a mus ordered if you like meet Broken Chili Chicken $36 chinese pepper, charred scallion If you want to go more fusion this chicken is perfect and well cooked Vegetable Fried Rice $20 coconut-curry, pineapple Probably the best rice I’ve eaten in my life so tasty and the sauce is perfect. I like the atmosphere, the music the place and the food above all. It was my friend’s birthday and they offered us an ice cream very tasty, worth it.

We were given a voucher to spend as it was a wedding gift for us to enjoy a meal here on our honeymoon. We were booked for 8pm but we didn't realise that means you turn up at 8pm then have to wait 1 hour until you are seated. The food was beyond average, big disappointment was our main dish that was chili crab...really it was just boiled crab with some chili sauce on it. We were really looking forward to crab cooked in chili! We are so glad we had a voucher as we would have been devastated to spend that sort of money on that meal. Venue is all about the look but don't focus enough on their food! Best part was unexpectedly the dessert which was amazing!

Having had a great meal here about 3 years ago, I decided to take some work colleagues here for a treat during a trip to New York for the NRF show - big mistake ! We ordered a tasting menu which was $100 per person and consisted of 6 or 7 starters and 6 or 7 mains. This was no tasting menu experience at all as they just shove the food out on you as fast as they can, trying to serve everything at once and whisking plates away before you have even finished what is on them (literally wrestling my colleague for a plate she was trying to take a sauce from). Having asked them to "slow down" about 3 times, trying to limit the food on the table to a few dishes we could enjoy without letting the rest go cold, they then simply put a plate of rice on our table and left it for 20 minutes whilst we waited for the last 3 dishes. Our waitress argued with the kitchen who claimed we had already had the remaining dishes - which eventually did turn up. The place is full of wannabe "influencers" who just want a picture to post and the restaurant is now catering directly to this kind of clientel. The food is OK, but a dining experience it is not. Not worth the money as it is now just basically overpriced fast food in a swanky setting with arrogant staff. I will not be returning as there are so many significantly better Asian dining experiences in New York.

Really looked forward to coming to eat at Buddakan, we booked for my partners birthday. Arriving was swift and we were really well taken care of, told to wait in the bar area until our table was ready, which didn't take long at all.. we were then led through the restraunt main area, which is so ambient and lively and decor-lighting simply beautiful, led past all of that and then seated in a separate room (felt like sitting in an airport lounge) right near the toilets and waiters cleaning station.. We asked straight away if we could be moved and it was sorted within minutes..we were led back into the vibrant area and given a choice of two tables which is so impressive. Once seated our waiter came over to hand us our menus and explain how we navigate it, etc ..then swiftly left and didn't return until one of us literally threw our hands in the air wiggling them. The service was appalling and practically non existent. The food was average for the extortionate prices they charge.. So disappointed.

Ok, so if the 'restaurant experience' only involved food, this place would do ok as the food is very nice. That said, the way it's served is a little chaotic; you've either got nothing for large parts of the evening or a table that's so full of food you don't know where to start! But...... Well the service is pretty shocking. From the moment you walk in you have to work too hard for it. We waited on our table for over 15 mins before we were acknowledged and some 20 mins before we were offered drinks and almost 30 mins until we received them. Everything you want you have to ask for and it gets exhausting! I can't say it's not enough staff as there seems to be plenty of them but they just don't seem to very well managed or organised. They just float around at no pace whatsoever! Our bill was almost $700 for 4 people, that included 2 children and no wine! We wouldn't go back or recommend this place and I'm a little surprised our high it seems to be based on the Trip Advisor scores. Maybe we got unlucky! To add an insult, they wouldn't call a cab for us as 'we don't have that facility here!' The hat utter nonsense! So we are left, in artic conditions sorting transport!

All style, no substance. This was a 30th birthday meal for my wife during our visit from NY, and it didn’t live up to the hype. We were excited when entering the restaurant because visually it is a cool venue. The low level lighting and dark corners make for something quite unique. Unfortunately, as soon as the other team members got involved, it lost the magic. We were greeted at the desk by 3/4 team members (overkill) who took our name and then suggested that we head to the bar for a drink whilst our table was prepared. We had no issue with this at all, in fact, the bar staff were great and were full of personality and recommendations. It was from there that things went down hill… Watching team members come up the steps from the desk and try to figure out who each group was in order to take them to their table was painful. There needs to be a better system for this, something slicker, two or three times we were asked our names and then we’re responded to with blank faces, this isn’t a high end approach. We were finally led to our table by an someone that wasn’t very keen to engage with us, which was a shame. There was no introduction to the menu at the table, we were left to figure it out for ourselves - it takes nothing to give some steer and recommendations as to how best to navigate a menu, it’s a small touch, but us a big impact on the experience. The food itself was good, very tasty, it was probably the best part of the experience, credit where credit’s due. The rest of the service throughout the meal was very poor, very disappointing. The level of attentiveness just wasn’t there, which is such a shame given the size of the bill, the drinks were left empty without the offer of another for too long, plates removed from the table whilst we were still eating - it felt robotic and lacked any emotion, we felt like a number. On top of this - there was the expectation of a large tip, this wasn’t earned, or deserved.

We are tourists from Italy and we were very excited about having dinner at Buddakan. We had booked a table with a week of advance for 10:30 pm. When we got there, the bouncer told us that the kitchen had closed, even if the same day we had recieved an email in which they asked if we wanted to confirm our reservation. After showing him the email, he called the manager, who told us that they had tried to call us to warn us that, due to Covid, the kitchen would have closed earlier. We had recieved no calls or emails about it. She apologised asking if we wanted to come in for drinks or desserts (clearly not on the house), or if she could schedule us for the next day. Needless to say that we declined.

2 Stars are for the kitchen as the food was excellent. Front of house were indifferent to our experience. Our group waited half an hour beyond the reservation time to be seated, then another half an hour before the first drinks arrived. Five ladies lined up at reception, doing the job of one person. I’m guessing this is for visual impact - get these people serving drinks already? The Duty Manager literally couldn’t care less when spoken to. He seemed out of his depth at this level. The concept of splitting the bill at the end seemed like a new one to them. One person had to settle the full bill and thee attitude was like, “Whatever, you sort it out”. This typified the service. What was meant to be a special night was spoilt by poor attitude. Whilst the food was good, the taste in our mouths was to bitter to enjoy it.

Worst high end food experience I have ever had in my life. Felt as though I was being seated by a group of high schoolers at applesbees not a place I was going to be spending $300 on dinner. Was seated an hour and half after the reservation time. What is the point of even making reservations then? The idiotic system of sending “hosts” up to the horribly lit bar blindly looking for the people waiting for tables is arguably the most moronic system I’ve ever seen put into place in my entire life. They aimlessly walk around until someone stops them and asks how much longer it will be until they’re seated and at that time they take them back to a table. Food and server were very good but because of the idiotic wait before even getting a table this place is not worth the visit. If you want Buddakan do yourself a favor and travel to the one in Philly and skip the NYC one. At least you’ll get seated in Philly within the hour or your reservation.

We booked a table as a surprise for our sisters 40th birthday (3 sisters travelling together) and it was amazing! I had wanted to visit on my last trip but couldn't get a table booked. We arrived and were offered a table in the bar to have a drink first. We ordered drinks and sat for 5 minutes or so before being taken downstairs to our table. The view coming down the stairs is just amazing! Our table was tucked away in the side beside the bar. The staff were attentive without being too pushy or in your face, the food selection was outstanding. The birthday sister doesn't tend to go places unless she knows everything that's on the menu so we took a risk with this one but she loved it. We spent just over $350 for the 3 of us which was food and drinks. Outstanding and worth it! I will be back next time I'm in NYC!

My daughter booked a table for the family and I didn’t know what to expect. It turned out to be a great night. The crowd was hopping when we arrived. Yes our table was 45 minutes late but we had a cocktail and watched the beautiful people. When we got to our table our waitress was so helpful and informative that it made the night more enjoyable. She dealt with the food allergies my eldest son has like a true professional. She looks like a young Minnie Driver. A compliment by the way! Our food was fantastic, the music whilst loud only added to our experience. Definitely recommend

We are strict vegetarians and we loved the options there were. The edamame dumpling was superb. We ordered stir fried noodles out of the menu without eggs, a fried rice, crispy tofu and some stir fried brocolli. I found the food slightly on the sweeter taste for my palette. But overall absolutely loved the experience and would highly recommend it! The service was not as great as expected. The server we had seemed like she was on a mission and was quite curt. When the first dishes arrived, I found the food sweetish and requested for the fried rice which had not yet arrived to made without pineapples. However, she just whisked the fried rice away when it came and we kept waiting for the other portion. Some 10-15 minutes later we were wondering whether or not the fried rice was coming. When I asked her, was quite defensive and insisted I had asked to cancel it. Even when I told her I did not want the fried rice taken away but just made without the pineapple, she refused to acknowledge it. Barring the service, the ambience and the food is worth it!! It is a MUST do in NYC!

Buddakan is always a vibe. Great scenery, great people and great food. The only thing you can complain about is the pricing, but even with that you know exactly what to expect when you're going. Everything on the menu tastes from good to great. From the various dumplings (shout out to the oxtail) to the lobster fried rice and the shrimp noodles. There's not a miss, although some are better than others. I can't wait to go back.
