We ate here on the recommendation of friends. Our steaks were perfectly cooked, if lacking seasoning, and the quality of meat was excellent. The service was also great. On the other hand, the sides and the sauces accompanying the steaks were incredibly disappointing (potatoes loaded with cream cheese). Given the price of the meal (even in Manhattan), and the reputation,... More

y Friend & I Made a Reservation For Christmas Day. Make Sure You Book Well In Advance as This Place Gets BUSY! I Had The Filet Mignon Au Poivre Done Medium & It Was Probably The Most Tender Steak I've Ever Eaten. The Sauce Was Different From What I've Had Before & It Offered a Layer of Richness. Calamari Was... More

Great food and service - our group of 8 were ages 12 to 88 and all enjoyed their meal of steak, chicken, lamb and lobster - we tried it all and loved it.

I went with my partner and a friend a couple of days after NYE. It's an old school place with plenty of history which can be seen across the restaurant. This place was really busy even for a "quiet" week after Christmas. The service was brilliant. I shared a porterhouse with my pal and my partner had a steak I... More

My wife and I always visit this restaurant when we are in New York City for at least one evening. The steaks (filet mignon) are great, the seafood (halibut, oysters, etc.) is wonderful, and the cocktails are excellent. It is not cheap, so plan to spend some $$$. Nevertheless, it is very much worth it. Make reservations.

We enjoyed a Sunday lunch at Wollensky's Grill, in mid December prior to a show. The steak salad was outstanding, medium rare on a bed of greens. My wife opted for a Wollensky burger, a hearty selection. The atmosphere is typical NYC, with attentive servers and an upscale feel.

I came here expecting a nice New York steak house experience, since my parents had been a few years before and told me about their amazing experience. However, something must have happened because I came out of the restaurant hugely disappointed. Firstly; the ambiance upstairs was horrible so we asked to sit downstairs in the more 'relaxed' area which wasn't... More

Previous reviews accurately reflect the high prices here so I'll just deal with the food. We started with a seafood platter, easily my favourite part of the meal but one portion would have served all nine of us. Sadly the waiter persuaded us to have two, which at $186 a pop was just unnecessary. The steaks were apparently good, but... More

Was excited to visit as I had heard much about its fame for great steaks - featured in films such as The Devil Wears Prada. We showed up and their reservation for us was wrong. They seated us quickly despite saying they had no tables for us. They steal was not very tender, was dry and did not have much... More

Food was good. Service was not that good. Took a Long time for our waiter to check on our table. He was not localizable for long periods Of time. So a 45 min lunch experience turned to a 1:30 aprox. Mainly because of this Issue.

One of America's most successful restaurants, this New York steakhouse opened in 1977 and has been a hit ever since.

It is one of the most trafficked restaurants in New York City and among the most celebrated steakhouses in the world. Specializing in fresh seafood and lobster and assorted steaks and chops, Smith & Wollensky is well recognized for its healthy portions, seasoned service staff and pop Americana ambience.

The painted wood exterior is dark forest green trim on sparkling white, with latticework trim. The elegant interior has turn-of-the-century appeal and design elements including shining brass, dark wood accents and polished wood floors.

Adjacent to Smith & Wollensky's is Wollensky's Grill. The Grill (entrance on 49th St) is open from 11:30AM till 2:00AM but does not accept reservations.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
