This is in a very pricey part of Madison Ave, and near the Met museum, so don't be shocked at the high prices. It is very popular with locals and gets lots of tourists too. It is a long narrow coffee shop, and not really attractive at all. Pricing is high for a coffee shop, and the food ordinary, nothing... More

The room itself is small and dated like so much of New York (something we in California are not used to so much). A busy diner with quick service and smiling waiters as others have pointed out. I enjoyed the Gyro although not the style I am used to out West as there were a lot of ingredients proportionally other... More

If you're in the mood for a simple meal near the museum, this is a very good choice. Like most diners in the city, it has a large menu with lots of different items, and quality can vary considerably. Choose with care and you should do fine. My veggie burger was a bit mushy and was clearly mass produced --... More

I might have been in the wrong neighborhood when I was hung for lunch. I stumbled upon this place, saw a sign announcing gyros, so I decided to go in. Gyros are usually filling and make for a good meal. I chose a chicken gyro-one of the least expensive items on the menu ($10). It arrived tightly wrapped in aluminum... More

We stopped in here after spending the day at The Met. Classic diner food. Friendly, local atmosphere with great service and delicious food.

Great restaurant for a Greek salad and sandwiches. Good for a quick bite. Close to shopping on Madison Ave, Museums on Fifth Ave and Central Park.

We stopped in looking for a spot to have a quick bite and a coffee and were not disappointed. A classic New York neighborhood diner of the type that is slowly disappearing. Regulars came in, were greeted by name, and had their usual dishes or drinks as we chatted and ate. Our food was good, the bill was modest, the... More

When I'm in NYC, I help out friends by escorting their young daughter to her school on the East Side with the intention of being at the Metropolitan Museum when it opens. I usually have a 90 minute widow, walk south on 5th avenue and then cut over to Madison when I usually have a NY diner breakfast at The... More

Reasonably priced for the area, good well-served food and friendly staff. What more could you want? I visited for lunch on the way back from the Met Museum. As a vegetarian the spinach pie an Greek salad was just what I wanted. Nice touch was the iced water waiting at the table, on a roasting hot day, very welcome. Would... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
