If you are a history fan of mixology, an art history lover or just one that appreciates an intimate bar where you can enjoy a quality drink with decent appetizers, then this place is for you. In 1934, the bartender of this bar, Fernand Petiot, created a new drink which he called the Bloody Mary--the name was considered a bit... More

The home of the Bloody Marys - amazing to sit in an iconic bar and to have superb Bloody Marys. Service was excellent. Best of the Manhattan.

We weren't impressed. The main bar is small, though there is additional seating near the restaurant. The service was slow and rather unfriendly. We each had one very expensive drink ($18+) and didn't bother returning, even though we were staying in the St. Regis.

Great atmosphere and drinks for a price. They claim to be the originator of the Bloody Mary and sold their one millionth Bloody Mary just last night. Definitely worth the tariff for a couple of drinks on a special night out.

We wanted to visit this bar primarily to see the King Cole painting by Maxwell Parrish behind the bar and to have a Bloody Mary at the spot where they were invented. Enjoyed it very much! We sat at the bar and chatted with the bartender, who filled us in on the painting's history and inside jokes.

I love old hotel bars, and the King Cole is probably the most quintessential of them all. It's a small space, but that simply adds to its quaint and intimate charm. If you go right when they open, you can sit in the middle seat at the bar and gaze up at Maxfield Parish's elegant painting of the king. Ask... More

It doesn't get much better then this. Classic old school New York hotel bar. The service is splendid and the cocktail selection and presentation is top notch.

Absolutely nothing! Maxfield Parrish is one of my favorite artist and having one his painting as a permanent fixture to enjoy anytime is priceless. "In 1934, St. Regis bartender Fernand Petiot, who is said to have experimented with a tomato-vodka drink in Paris in the 1920s, served America's first Bloody Mary to Russian prince Serge Obolensky, for a time married... Some of the reviews are not really wrong, the service can seem a little disinterested and stand-offish. The bartenders are certainly not as bubbly as the ones at my neighborhood bar. But they are quick and professional and I think this is the style of the place. Although aesthetically it looks like the kind of place to spend an afternoon... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
