I can't believe these guys are closing down on December 31 2016. This place is an institution! I visit every time I come to New York. Classic huge meat filled sandwiches. Always a line out the door of people waiting to get in. Great service from the same old ladies that have worked there for years. Photos of all the... More

Little by little the quintessential New York delis are closing (the Carnegie is rumored to close the last day of 2016).. At this yummy & famous spot, be prepared to wait in line to get in. Going to the Carnegie was a treat. The tables are so close that you tend to engage with the people around you and it... More

Had to try this deli , always a queue outside and I believe it closes for good at the end of the year . We waited for about 20 minutes to get into the restaurant , it was well worth the wait . Very atmospheric inside , little crowded but all part of the fun . We had a 'small'... More

We stopped here on our first night in town after a long day this was the perfect way to end it. We split a reuben, the prices are expensive but more than enough for 2 to share. We also shared a piece of the chocolate mousse cake. Service was good. But if you have to go to the restroom downstairs,... More

First day in New York, breakfast time, we saw this place and thought why not. We ordered the French toast and pancake combo - wow the portion size is huge, I struggled to eat mine. The coffee kept coming - always a bonus. The service was a little strange but quirky, Delores says she is going on a break, disappears... More

Possibly the worst sandwich I have ever eaten. It was massively overpriced at nearly $20 for a dry, unseasoned small slab of chicken with absolutely nothing else but a pot of mayo. I had seen the reviews and the queues outside and thought it would be worth $20. The sandwiches for people dining in looked good but dining in or... More

Ate breakfast here on recommendation, having queued to get in we were seated straight away (think they were just slightly late in opening), service was polite and relatively quick but not service with a smile (we found this a fair bit on the trip actually). We were however pleased with the Breakfast, my pooched eggs were slightly odd but maybe... More

Closing the end of the month, this iconic NY deli just didn't deliver for our last visit. Pastrami sandwiches are still huge and cheesecake is still served, but energy level has dropped and staff appears indifferent.

We sat on line outside for an hour in the cold. They came out twice just to ask how many were in your party but never took your name. Then when we finally did get inside it took over 20mins for the waiter to come over because he waited for more people to sit at the table with you. We... More

If you don't mind waiting 1 - 2 hours outside in line for the best deli sandwich - go to this place before it closes on December 31. The deli doesn't seat a lot of people and the line really is that long. You get huge sandwiches, great soup, sides and desserts. Typical of NYC don't expect great atmosphere or... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
