The service and friendliness of the staff could not have been better. However, the coffee was so-so, hot chocolate was watery and with little taste; cookies hard and tasteless. It was warm (except if you sat next to a closed glass exterior door which may be used in the summer) but really close quarters, like being on a submarine. You'll... More

At 11.30 AM the place was full except for 2-3 tables.Although there was only one waitress to take orders, serve and clear the table, she was professional and very pleasant. The place, furniture and decor date back to 1927. Both of us had pasta and our taste buds were very satisfied. Then came the American Cheese cake with strawberries and hot Pecan pie and... More

I simply couldn't believe that this place hasn't changed since I first went there in 1988. it is still the same and just as wonderful as I remembered it

Relaxed but cramped - particularly the restroom. Nice food: the various egg dishes are recommended. And not as expensive as similar establishments.

This place has been around since 1927 and has been in movies like The Godfather 2 and Shaft among others. You can get a cup of coffee anywhere but this place feels like a coffee house should be. We stopped in for dessert and coffee on a cold night. It is small and busy but nostalgic. If you are in... More

This is the great interior from the movie "Next Stop Greenwich Village" from 1976, my absolute favourite movie, and you can really imagine the wonderful caracters come alive in this fantastic setting, heavy and filled with stories...

The caffe is very small and the tables are tightly squeezed and yet it's cozy and very New York. We came around 6 on a Friday night and it was packed. I got the tiramisu which was the best I've ever had. The hot chocolate on the other hand was a bit weak. It didn't have a rich chocolate taste.... More

What a cool place. We found it by accident walking around Greenwich Village. Later found out it is the coffee shop that brought cappuccino to New York! And the old machine is in the corner to prove it! It's dark and mystical inside with lots of old paintings and furniture which add to the atmosphere. The cannoli was amazing!

This is a little gem if you're in the village, proper coffee I had for 5 days I stayed in New York. Breakfast is excellent too, slow service is not a problem for me if you're getting a nice cup of coffee. You have to sit inside and enjoy the lovely interior, outside is good for some people watching. Highly... More

This is an old Italian cafe with plenty of atmosphere just a block or so from Washington Square. The cappuccino comes with a dusting of cinnamon. It was perfect.

Staying in Greenwich Village

Neighbourhood Profile
Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighbourhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighbourhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
