We had a wonderful dinner at Pylos this month. The restaurant is comfortable and attractive. The menu has a good variety of traditional and modern Greek food. Pylos a step up. Many of the dishes are good for sharing with the table so that everyone gets to try a variety of flavors. The wine lis is fairly priced and the... More

This restaurant was highly recommended to us and we agree! Firstly the ambiance is lovely. The acoustics are such that you can actually have a quiet conversation. I loved the art and especially the clay jugs on the ceiling. But of course the food is the real reason to come. We started with the delicious Avgolemono soup, and each of... More

One of my favorite NYC Greek restaurants. Make a reservation or you will not get a table. We had avgolemonia soup (excellent), pazaria (beets), kolokuthia and melanzana tykanites (fried zucchini and eggplant) and haloumi sautéed in raki with grapes (unbelievable) with wine, saving room for excellent galaktobouriko.

Four of us had appetizers, mains and shared a dessert and two bottles of wine last night. Everything was excellent. Herring, octopus and bean/tsatziki and taramasalata were all fresh and tasty and beautifully presented. Two of us had the lamb shank, one the lamb chops, and one the branzino. Delicious all! The waitress recommended a new wine that was not... More

After reading all the great reviews, we decided to try the place. First----be prepared to be sandwiched in between a row of VERY close tables-----you have to move the table to get to the rest rooms!!! Tables are very small and be concerned about knocking something over. Secondly----although the service is attentive, it is a bit TOO much so with... More

Loved everything about the feel of this restaurant. The terra cotta vase ceiling the lighting, the decor and Greek music softly playing in the background.?The food was amazing! Started off with saganaki, pitakia with pasturma and octopus. All was cooked to perfection! For dinner we had lamb chops, ribeye, Bronzino and shrimp and scallops ouzo. Couldn't have asked for a... In Eastern village, a simply and though nicely decorated restaurant in a cosy atmosphere, with a nice welcome, good and healthy Greek plates, around 35 usd per person

Beautiful restaurant in East Village. Perfect night out with friends (would go for a date night too). Shared the grilled octopus with balsamic glaze. Perfectly cooked, but would have preferred with simple olive oil and lemon vs glaze. The traditional Greek salad was outstanding! The tomatoes had beautiful flavor and perfectly vine ripe. We shared a grilled Dorian fish that... More

A Sunday lunch with friends in Pylos was a delight. The restaurant was doing good trade but wasn't too busy or noisy. We ordered the taramasalata, Greek salad (eliniki salata), fried squid (kalamarakia tyganita) and meatballs (afrata keftedakia) and, as we said we'd be sharing plates, each dish arrived as soon as it was ready. The food was uniformly excellent:... More

This is one of my favorite Greek restaurants in NY. The food is amazing. But I always enjoy it more at lunch than at dinner. it is too crowded at dinner and the waiters rush you. More mellow and enjoyable at lunch. Also, if you order a bottle of wine make sure you control the pouring yourself. The waiters must... More

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
