The place is small so either book or come early, especially at dinner time. Liked the look of the place as soon as we walked in. It reminded us of little local sushi bars in Tokyo. No, it isn't cheap here, but I learned early on not to eat cheap sushi. If you are watching your pennies, go and have... More

My wife and I have been to a number of top sushi restaurants in and outside Japan and wanted to see what New York City has to offer. Soon after we made our reservation, a woman from Masa telephoned us on two separate occasions before that date to ask whether we were coming. When we stepped into the restaurant, we... More

Masa is one of the most impressive dining experiences I have enjoyed. Simple, understated decor, quiet atmosphere, and the freshest fish I have enjoyed, simply I can find no fault with the evening.

Bar Masa has always been my favorite sashimi restaurant ever. They stay open between lunch and dinner. The fish served there couldn't be fresher. But everytime I go back, two things come to my mind: why are they located inside a shopping mall and WHY service is so bad??

Unless if you hate or are allergic to particular ingredients, you'll likely be impressed. Even if you're not typically into particular fish, Masa might change your mind! The first half of the dinner is prepared/cooked food, which is executed extremely well. Standouts are the blowfish prepared several ways and an optional course of kobe beef topped with truffle shavings -... More

My wife and I love japanese cuisine. We've been to several japanese restaurants around the world, though we have never visited Japan. I suppose most of them have become a bit westernized to cusomize to local clients. Many restaurants we've been had excellent cuisine, including some in New York City. But MASA seemed to us to suit many of our... More

This was a HUGE treat we gave ourselves in August of 2008. And I do mean HUGE, as at Masa you must be prepared for the heart attack at the end of the meal-- the bill. The dinner was a prix fixe menu which ran $350 per person. But after at least several carafes of different premium sakes, and an... More

Prix fixe costs $350 excluding tax, tips, and beverage. The bill can exceeding $1,000 for two people. The sushi has bluefin tuna, endangered species.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
