Ate here with my family to start the Christmas weekend. Come inside and immediately step back in time to the 1930s. Art Deco furniture and murals surround this beautiful restaurant. Cocktails are large and full of high octane. Food is delicious. If you're a fan, I recommend starting with the steak tartare....delicious. They don't specify a dress code however if... More

While the menu and offerings were delicious, we were a party of 8 dining on 12/10/16 on reservations made well in advance. We ordered cocktails, starters, and bottles of wine, in addition to main course and dessert. All VERY pricey, but we were there for the experience. Our waiter rushed us from the beginning, and the manager came multiple times,... More

Great place vintage 1936 I was told! The Bar area and restaurant are elegant with tasteful murals and a monkey theme throughout. The banquettes give dining an intimate dining experience and the service was very friendly and professional. The food was simply delicious and and all was plated in an appealing way. It was a classy experience and I would... More

Service was great and the setting, a classic New York throw back, was somewhere between tongue-in-cheek and just plain outdated. Half empty on a Friday night, food was mediocre for the money and the wine was way overpriced. Spent, with service, $400 for two small starters, two steak mains and a bottle of wine which I think is border line... More

Heard about Monkey Bar and decided to try it. Classic ambiance in a casual way. Food was delicious. Octopus appetizer melted in my mouth. Never had octopus prepared so flavorful and tender. Smoked pasta and shrimp dinner was also an first and exceeded expectations. Prepared perfectly and was astoundingly delicious! Had a lovely Super Tuscan wine by the glass which... More

Going to Monkey Bar on a Monday night made our cozy booth off zebra print carpet a quiet enough experience to have good conversations. The bartender and the waiter were very attentive. All enters ordered were good. This place stands in our "return" list!

So a last minute dash on the internet to find somewhere close or in vicinity of our hotel to dine out on our last night in NYC. Everything reasonably priced BUT omg it was delicious and I wish I could have had more courses. My sister and o shared every meal in NYC just so we could have tried it... More

Restaurant is expensive and food was just not good. We both ordered chicken which is very hard to ruin roasted chicken but it did not taste good at all. Waiter was very nice but we could not eat our meal. Manager refunded one dinner. Maybe it was just an off night?

We only had drinks here. Very good service and very convenient for us as we were guests of the Hotel Elysee. Seems popular and hopping at all times.

Thank Louise A

Established in 1936, Monkey Bar was returned to its former glory in 2009 by Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter.

The dining room's lush red leather banquettes and dim, attractive lighting have restored the fizzy thrill of dining in a restaurant - both attractive and cozy - and harken back to a bygone era when a gentleman never left the house without a tie and a lady always had a pair of white gloves in her purse.

Monkey Bar's menu boasts American classics alongside seasonal dishes using sustainable and organic products whenever possible.

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
