We went in to Soba Nippon by accident. We (6 of us) were looking for lunch in Midtown on Dec 30. Not an easy thing to do without major waits. It was a bit late but surprisingly this one had an open table. Lunch was delicious. The specialty is Soba noodles but hey have other options, including a sushi bar.... More

We've been looking around for a place to eat on a cold December night and we ended up at this restaurant. Place looked warm and inviting. Food was good - we had tempura, nabeyaki udon and sukiyaki. They didn't have sushi but that was ok. Food was tasty and warm for a hungry bunch. We left satisfied and glad we... More

Love this place for lunch. (For dinner, the room is too big and empty) The food is wonderful. Soba is made fresh from their own farm, which they are justly proud of. The service is great and the food is wonderful. I particularly love the beef soba salad, which is a perfect lunch. Other dishes are equally good. Anyone looking... More

Food is 5 stars for sure. The setting and interior are pretty nice, just gets extremely crowded during lunch time. They won't even consider you if you don't have a reservation for lunch. I always get the Chicken Soba Salad to-go for lunch and bring it back to my office. It's addicting. The most amazing Salad/Soba noodle combo I've ever... More

Ehh. Walking in is a very nice experience. Very clean look - bright - comfortable - tables not crammed together. The service was very good - attentive. But the entree I had (Beef Sukiyaki) was average for my taste and the traditional dessert that came in a glass and is made in-house was terrible. The pork dumplings I had were... More

We met in a convenient spot to meet our kids now working in NYC. The service was excellent and interior was open and easy to talk to one another without overhearing the next table. The Japanese menu and offerings were varied and inviting. We chose the chicken teriyaki - and it was excellent ! We will return as it was... More

This is a frequent weekday lunch spot for me, especially in cold weather when I crave a big bowl of soba with hot broth. Rule 1: Always make reservation, even at noon for 2 people, because bus loads of Japanese tourists often take many of the seats. Rule 2: You could order things other than soba, but why? That is... A midweek dinner here turned into an exercise in frustration. I understood going in that Soba Nippon is not a sushi restaurant. But they offered several sushi-like dishes, which is one reason I went there. Unfortunately, there was no toro. Fine, how about lobster and soba? No lobster either. Then I began to get a bit frustrated. I wound up... More

Am back again and find that the soba is not as impressive as the last couple of times - boo! the service is still good but it feels a bit much that they are just standing there watching you eat and jump at your table as soon as you put down the chopsticks - maybe its a cultural thing to... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
