When my gal and I need an adult place in the East Village, this is our go-to place. Very good Mediterranean-style food, a relaxed atmosphere, tables spaced far enough apart to feel some privacy and always cordial and entertaining, if not always attentive, service. The cocktails ($10) go down easy. The desserts are top rate. There's a cabaret room in... More

This Italian-style restaurant functions as a small theater in the back. I came to enjoy the show in the theater, and was pleasantly surprised by the food quality during dinner. The tagliatelle with shrimp was delicious, and the Moroccan chicken was one of the most popular dishes. Very reasonably priced for NYC, and located in trendy East Village (metro stop:... More

Went to Pangea Saturday night and enjoyed a great performance from the Warren Chaisson Trio in a very intimate performance space. You could feel the reverberations from Warren's vibraphone! Couple outstanding jazz with excellent service, tasty food and fair prices and I will be back to this east side gem! All 4 diners in my party thought the food was... More

Last Sunday I attended a festive send off for a dear friend. The food, atmosphere and service were exemplary. I nibbled on humus and a fish dish. Tried some pork belly and devoured a watermelon salad. All delish! Speaking of delish... so was our very attractive waiter Venny 😊... Kudos for a flawless experience. Will definitely return!

Cabaret singing your thing? Come to Cafe Noctambulo at Pangea for a delightful evening! Intimate room is a wonderful setting to sit and listen to Eric Comstock's wonderful rendition of The American Songbook along with snippets of information on the writers and performers... true pearls of wisdom. Guest solos by Steve Ross and Barbara Fasano were the cherries on the... More

For visitors seeking a taste of a New Yorker's New York, catching a show at Pangea will satisfy. Local favorites perform in an ageless back room to the enthusiastic support of the audience. The schedule varies widely (nationally known or not, the talent is amazing). Dining options available with the show. This is it, folks. The quintessential real New York... More

Been here a few times. I love it every time as do the people I have taken with me. Came here for dinner. I had their skirt steak - it was very good! My friends also loved their food. They have a great menu with something for everyone. Also, their portion sizes were perfect! The service was very good as... More

In our married life of over 20 years, this was the first time we celebrated New Years Eve by leaving the house. Went to Cafe Notambulo which is at the rear of the Pangea Restaurant. Cafe N. has great cabaret performers. Exceptionally talented singer/pianist Daryl Sherman was terrific. Didn't expect great food at a cabaret venue but we were pleasantly... More

This restaurant was featured on the Classic Stage Company web site and so we gave it a try. We had reservations at 6:00 on a Friday night and were mostly the only ones in the restaurant. But, The waiter was very friendly and helpful with suggestions and we had a very good meal. We shared the calamari appetizer and herbed... More

Staying in East Village

Neighbourhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighbourhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighbourhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
