We had an hour to eat and the Edie ordered the 3 course pre fix. Everything was excellent especially the smoked trout, but what seemed to set this restaurant apart was the service. Incredibly attentive and friendly while at the same time being hardly noticeable. Would definitely eat here again.

There is a reason that if you Google the number one restaurant in Manhattan they'll send you to this establishment. I'm writing this purely because I had a wonderful experience but trust me when I tell you they don't need it. Restaurants like this are the cornerstone of traditional cuisine that you've never tasted. Everything from the olive bread to... More

One of my top 3 in New York City. Good atmosphere, ambience and service team pays attention to detail. The food was simple and elegant, perfect.

I thought to make sure they knew in advance that we were vegan and it was very appreciated that not only did the chef have our meals well accommodated, but the entire staff serving us knew to protect that as well. The food was exceptional, as expected, and the dinning room is wonderful. The only drawback was that with food... More

Went there for dinner with a friend. We had a cocktail each followed by a main and a dessert with a bottle of wine. We were lucky to get a table (albeit it was only 7pm on a Monday night) as the restaurant was packed. We sat in the less formal front room. The atmosphere of the restaurant is great.... More

This restaurant is pricey, but it is worth it. The decore is great. The staff works perfectly together and the food delicious! this is definitely worth a visit. We liked it so much that we stayed for almost a 3 hour lunch.

We stopped quite by accident, at the Gramercy Tavern - only to fall in love with it!. After 11:00 pm it is often hard to find a drink and desert. Here we found not only excellent Scotch, but a barkeep who knows how to serve it! For our snack we saw a wonderful blueberry pie [for 2], and ordered it... More

Description
One of America’s most beloved restaurants, Gramercy Tavern has welcomed guests for close to two decades to enjoy seasonal American cuisine, warm hospitality and unparalleled service. The restaurant is perennially ranked at the top of Zagat Survey’s ‘Most Popular’ list, and has garnered eight James Beard Awards including ‘Outstanding Restaurant’ and ‘Best Chef: NYC’. Chef Michael Anthony’s highly seasonal menu consists of elegant dishes with a rustic influence that showcase the restaurant’s relationships with local farms and purveyors. The Main Dining Room serves prix-fixe menus starting at $92 for dinner and an a la carte menu for lunch, and accepts reservations 28 days in advance. The more casual Tavern serves an a la carte menu centered around the wood burning grill, and welcomes guests on a walk-in basis. The restaurant also features an acclaimed wine list, and thoughtfully selected beer and cocktail offerings.

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighbourhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets- much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighbourhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being the home of a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
