This has been my go-to restaurant for years in NYC. Perfect for lunch or brunch- the food not as fussy as the back dining room, yet delicious! It is unfortunate they do not take reservations via phone for the front room - so plan accordingly (restaurant waiting area is quite small and bar usually full) All that said, this is... More

Getting a table can be a challenge and we were fortunate to come before it got too busy. The food is superb. Really flavorful. We had fish and thought it was very tasty. This is not a great place if you struggle with your hearing.

Enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Gramercy Tavern. Everything was superb: service, food, wine and decor. The level of service is friendly, efficient, competent and non-intrusive. I had the striped bass with a light clam beurre blanc sauce -- delicious. My companion had the black sea bass with broccoli rabe -- also delicious. To start, we shared the kale and brussel... More

My husband and I had a really nice dinner here. I'd say the service is more memorable than the food. Our food was really good, but nothing that I'm dying to go back for, except for their delicious bread and butter and desserts. We ordered the smoked trout, arctic char, chicken and sausage, and chocolate ganache dessert and a pear... More

We had dinner here last night (in the main dining room) after getting engaged and it was really perfect. The food was excellent and the service was above and beyond. Our server, Michael, was attentive, helpful and just plain nice. The whole place has a down-to-earth vibe which is a breath of fresh air compared to other fine dining restaurants.... More

Absolutely loved the place! Had no reservation for 2 people so waited a little bit by the the bar with a lovely glass of wine. Staff found us a place to sit in a few minutes and followed a very nice dinner. Had NY State Riesling for dinner so when i was looking for dessert wines, the barman offered us... More

Fine meal in the front room. Portions on the small side but well-prepared food. This is tempered however by the extreme prices for cocktails. $25 for a basic cocktail leaves a bad taste. No reason for that even with "no tipping" policy. (There's plenty of tip built in.) Seemed like they were taking advantage. Would not readily return based on... More

Gramercy Tavern consists of the tavern and the dining room. The tavern is more casual and doesn't accept reservations, but you will likely have to wait to be seated. The dining room takes reservations that you will may need to make well in advance. We ate in the dining room. It was very warm and inviting. The staff was very... More

We went to The Grammy Tavern for our 25th Anniversary and chose the same venue for our 30th. This could have been a poor decision as we had such fond memories of our visit 5 years earlier. Writing this now makes me feel there should be a 6th star for those very special dining experiences and this would be the... More

There is a menu restaurant and a tasting menu with wine pairing at this restaurant. We did not know that when the reservations were made for us...needless to say they put us in the tasting part which is prix fix. Unfortunately, I did not want to eat that much or that type of food...usually too rich for me....they worked something... More

One of America’s most beloved restaurants, Gramercy Tavern has welcomed guests for close to two decades to enjoy seasonal American cuisine, warm hospitality and unparalleled service. The restaurant is perennially ranked at the top of Zagat Survey’s ‘Most Popular’ list, and has garnered eight James Beard Awards including ‘Outstanding Restaurant’ and ‘Best Chef: NYC’. Chef Michael Anthony’s highly seasonal menu consists of elegant dishes with a rustic influence that showcase the restaurant’s relationships with local farms and purveyors. The Main Dining Room serves prix-fixe menus starting at $92 for dinner and an a la carte menu for lunch, and accepts reservations 28 days in advance. The more casual Tavern serves an a la carte menu centered around the wood burning grill, and welcomes guests on a walk-in basis. The restaurant also features an acclaimed wine list, and thoughtfully selected beer and cocktail offerings.

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighbourhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets- much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighbourhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being the home of a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
