I ordered a manhattan chowder and a salad. The salad was tasteless, which is not unusual in this kind of places, but the chowder was a vegetable soup which is not my definition of a manhattan chowder.

This is what a NYC coffee shop is supposed to be. Homey, friendly and good food. Breakfast is good, turkey burgers and salads are great for lunch. Prices are fair and the service is fast and courteous. You get what you pay for here and you can't go wrong stopping in.

Neil's is your classic NYC deli luncheonette, complete with Greek-themed tiles on the wall. Service is brisk and fast. The food is utterly predictable if you know this kind of place, which is ubiquitous in Manhattan: good, reasonably priced given the locatioin. My only quibble with Neil's is that the place closes (it says here) at 8:30pm -- but in... More

We always stop here for lunch en route to the Met. Missed it a couple years and this year it seemed changed. Lost it's old school charm. Food not great as it has been. Too bad.

Been eating at Neil's probably 5 years. Great UES old standby when you want either "breakfast all day" or just a quick bite Food always good and service as well

This is not fancy food or a fancy location - its an old school New York Dinner that does decent sandwiches and good breakfasts. The waiters where black vests and white shirts and tourists don't eat here.... If you come understanding that - you will love it.

Just a few block from the South East corner of Central Park. I was exploring the neighborhood and came across this little gem. There is not many places to eat around here but you don't need any other. The dinner is an old-school, nothing fancy kind of spot but burger is great. I enjoyed a burger and a Coke at... More

In an earlier review, I expressed some concern about cleanliness while reporting that the food was pretty good. I read a review here comparing this shop to the one in the Seinfeld series and it certainly has some similarities. I decided to give it another chance this morning. My concerns about cleanliness persisted, and the food really wasn't very good.... More

Not sure what went wrong. We have breakfast a few times a year at Neil's when staying with friends on the Upper East Side, and have consistently had prompt service and well-prepared food ... but not this time! On Sunday morning the store opened a bit late. We were first in the door, but our order was taken third, and... More

Was in Manhattan to see the New York City Marathon. We walked by this establishment and decided we wanted to drop in for a cup of coffee. Their homemade muffins looked so delicious I had to try one. The service. The atmosphere. The neighborhood feel of the place made it even more inviting. I would drop in to have a... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
